Research Paper On Groundhog
All Eyes on the Groundhog After a long hard winter most, people are looking forward to spring.
Spring brings about new life, budding trees and flowers, birds singing and butterflies flying.
Predicting the end of winter and the beginning of spring has been a long time favorite ritual for
many people. Groundhog Dayhas been around for centuries. The tradition stems from earlier
traditions and crosses many different cultures. Groundhog Day remains very popular today.
Initially, thousands of years ago people in Europe looked to the badger for the prediction of the
arrival of spring. They watched the badger to determine when to plant their crops. However, since
badgers were scarce in Pennsylvania, the groundhog took over this duty. Tradition holds that if the
groundhog sees his shadow on February 2nd it will be scared and return to its burrow, signaling
that there will be six more weeks of winter. If his shadow is not seen then spring is on its way
(Groundhog). The famous Punxsutawney Phil, gets his name from the Indian name for the location
ponksad uteney which means the town of sandflies (Groundhog 1017).
Prior to Groundhog Day German settlers, performed the tradition of Candlemas Day (Groundhog
2017). Candlemas Day involved clergy blessing candles and distributing them to everyone in the
dark cold days of winter, the people placed a lighted candle in each window of their home
(Groundhog 2017). If on February 2nd the sun came out there would be six more Yohe 2
John Dewey s Philosophy Of Education Research Paper
Philosophy (love and wisdom) is the study of ideas about knowledge, truth, nature and the meaning
of life (Merriam Webster s Learner s Dictionary, 2011). The definition of education is the act or
process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and
judgment, and generally preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life (Dictionary.com
Unabridged, 2016). Continuing, (Neill, 2005) researched that John Dewey s Philosophyof Education
indicates that:
Learning was active and schooling unnecessarily long and restrictive. His idea was that children
came to school to do things and live in a community which gave them real, guided experiences
which fostered their capacity to contribute to society. For example, Dewey believed that students
should be involved in real life tasks and challenges.
There are other educational philosophies, but in this essay, I was given the great opportunity to

A skill is the ability to do something well (Oxford University Press, 2010). How one appears on
paper is more important than how one appears in person, (Zinsser, 1979, para.9). This statement
shows how much a student s academic knowledge and exam qualifications are important to
schools all around the world. Do you really think students should only focus on academics? What
about jobs that require skilled workers? Since academics are mainly focused in schools, students
are deprived from learning skills and carrying out tasks in order to learn. Instead, they study and
pass exams without actually learning how to perform a task well. In other words, they are given
more than enough information about a job. However, no practical work is being done to bring
about learning. This will lead to an increased, unskilled population where the country will now have
to obtain workers from other countries in order to perform certain tasks that we are unable to
The Influence of Macroinvertebrates Communities in Water...
Structure of macroinvertebrates communities may change with seasons because most environmental
factors change with seasons. This process can directly influence water quality parameters such as
Dissolved oxygen, turbidity, conductivity, temperature, nutrients, and pH. (McCulloch, 2009).These
parameters appears to have direct influence on the macroinvertebrate life cycles (Sporka et al. 2006).
In other words physical and chemical parameters of a catchment will ultimately determine what
breed should live in it (ANZECC ARMCANZ 2000) for example in the figure 1,2,3 and 5 that three
higher taxa Cnidaria, Nematoda ,Turbellaria were instinct or either in very low abundance in most of
the sampling site during summer and spring season. In nature these taxa commonly occur in similar
habitats at stream sites throughout the region (Dostine, 2014).
The examination of model macroinvertebrate for all sampling round shows that in summer there is
always less diversity and abundance among key higher taxa of the wetland as compared to early
spring. This is because of suitable temperature, water chemistry and flow. Similarly according to a
study conducted by Leigh( 2012) in dry summer water level or depth may decrease which is worst
situation for most surface dwelling species of macroinvertebrates(for example in summer sampling
round 1 only five tax were recorded). Higher temperature has several effects on macroinvertebrates
such as the less availability of oxygen for respiration,
Goal to Find Land to Build Low-cost Residential Housing in...
For the goal and objectives of this project, we need to identify the best suitable place in the study
area (Eastern Passage Cow Bay) to build residential houses with a low cost. We should meet the
objectives of protecting the natural environment and reducing the costs for heating or services. For
example, if we build a house need road, it will spend less materials that are needed to connect to an
existing road. Otherwise, for the process of doing this project, we need to use GIS tools to look at
some major information and figure out the entire structure for the study area. At the beginning, we
need to find three of the best alternative sites maybe with a different element combination in order to
help us to analysis the suitable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also is a foundational step of the decision making process. This methodology can be used in the
environment or economic aspects in order to help the decision makers to evaluate and plan the sites
that are suitable for building houses. In MCE, the decision alternatives have a preference order and
use for evaluations and alternatives. For example, a high attribute value is better than the medium
and medium is better than the low value, and this order can be also used in opposite. Attribute with
a known preference order are called evaluation criteria (Timothy., Nyerges. 2010). Criteria can be in
different measurement scales. In mathematics, there are four measure types including nominal,
ordinal, interval and ratio. Even though, they might create a problem when evaluating the decision
alternatives, this kind of problem can be overcome by criterion standardization which can
transform all criteria measurements onto a common scale. For example, the data can be converted
from ratio to interval data, and ratio and interval data can be converted to ordinal scale. However,
this transition cannot be reversed. The MCE contains GIS tools and probably a matrix. For GIS,
one of the most significant application is the analysis of data to support the process of environmental
decision making. The definition of decision is a choice between alternatives.
Medical Education Philosophy Statement
As I apply, I have no doubt that the University of Connecticut School of Medicine is a respectable
medical school that can prepare me for my future professional career in medicine by providing
endless opportunities throughout my medical education. My interest in this institution rests in its
commitment of preparing its students for their medical career through innovative medical education.
On a more personal level, the unlikeness of the medical curriculum of the Universityof Connecticut
School of Medicine, M delta, compared to the curriculums of other medical schools I explored had
a certain appealed to my understanding of what an interesting way of learning medicine is. The M
Delta curriculum adopted by UConn School of Medicine is an
A Critical Appreciation of Wallace Steven s the Idea of...
A critical appreciation of Wallace Stevens The Idea of Order at Key West
The Idea of Order at Key West was written in 1934 and is considered Stevens most complicated
poem. It is both long (being eight stanzas and 56 lines) and in depth. The Idea ... is in a loose
iambic pentameter and is written in free verse, meaning that there is no organized rhyme pattern.
The stanzas are a bit confusing because the fifth one is indented a lot after the fourth one. In fact,
there is no actual line between them. As complex as it is, the plot of The Idea... is rather simple.
The speaker of the poem, a man, is walking down a beach with a friend and hears a woman singing.
He muses on how the sounds of the ocean contrast and inspire her voice. He ... Show more content

To answer this question, Stevens suggest that the narrator must investigate and recognize the
difference between imagination and reality. Since the sea is an external nature which causes a
meaningless constant cry and cannot be formed to mind or voice , the narrator must distinguish the
ocean s image and counterpart through the singer. Likewise, her ability to utter the sound of the
waves word by word helps to transform the inhuman song of the sea into the entirely human song of
the woman. Moreover, as the singer measures and interprets her song; the ocean similarly analyzes
and follows the laws of nature.
As the speaker begins to perceive that the song is more than the sea merely singing through the
woman s voice, he begins to feel a sense of ineffability which goes beyond the mere language of the
tune and experience of his walk. Thus in stanza twenty eight he states:
But it was more than that, more even than her voice, and ours
The narrator begins to accept the mystery behind the song s blissfulness and acquires the tune as the
driving spirit of all the external realities in his presence. This realization of the song s ineffability
makes the sky acutest at its vanishing (35) and measured to the hour at its solitude . For Stevens,
these acts of interpretation are
Psychology At Jefferson Center For Mental Health
Throughout this semester I completed an internship in psychology at Jefferson Center for Mental
Health. Specifically I spent my time in a short term Hospital Alternative Facility (HAF). HAF is a
residential facility that aids in transitioning home from the hospital, another Jefferson Center for
Mental Health facility or a crisis situation. All of our clients have current mental health diagnoses,
the most common of which are depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and
schizophrenia. Clients stay for only a short time and the main objectives for their stay normally
revolve around stabilizing meds and finalizing housing and living plans for the future. HAF
provides services that are vital in that clients can have a stable residence so they can focus on
managing symptoms and figuring out the best strategy to integrate themselves, with new goals back
into their life. However, with all of HAF s outstanding and vital qualities, there are also areas that I
would suggest for improvement given what I have learned through my undergraduate education in
psychology. My first critique stems from my exposure to both Psychopharmacology and Clinical
Psychologyclasses. Every morning, a Nurse Prescriber comes to HAF and meets with as many
clients as she can during her allotted two hours each weekday. There are two critiques that I have
found concerning given this method of managing client medication. The first lies in an apparent
patient client disconnect present in
