Road Safety Awareness Campaign

Inspired by the Government of India’s initiative, Aakaar organised its first
ever road safety awareness campaign online , during the National Road
Safety Month announced by Ministry of Road Transport & Highways. As a
part of the campaign , Aakaar organised :

1. Startup Talk titled, “Road to Autombile Safety with AI & Computer
Vision”, where we had Mr. Nisarg Pandya, Founder of Drivebuddy AI
startup, talk with one of our civil senior Mr. Pranav Deo, Overall
Coordinator of UMIC, IIT Bombay ( working on SeDriCa, IIT Bombay)

2. First Annual Road Safety Webinar 2021- Piyush Tewari , founder and
CEO of SaveLife Foundation spoke at the webinar , hosted by our
professor of Civil Department, Prof. Avijit Maji.

3. ARSAQ- Aakaar Road Safety Awareness Quiz was organised, where
participants had to solve 100 questions in a half hour time, and take
the Good Samaritan Pledge. Over 1000+ students participated and
took the pledge to help road crash victims and make themselves
aware of the Good Samaritan Law

4. Safety Saturday Blogs during the campaign, co-authored by our

sophomore co-ordinators and fresher organisers , informed our
followers about the socio-technical aspects of Road Safety in India.

The Campaign saw participation of 2000+ people in a span of 1 month. We

hope to reach more people with our awareness initiative in the next editions
to come.
InfraBharat Lecture Series
In this one of kind lineup of webinars, we invited top engineers and
architects from the infrastructure industry, to talk about the design, planning
and management of some of the key-megaprojects of India, in which they
had been involved in various capacities.
1. Atal Tunnel. Speaker: Mr. Sandeep Sharma, Head of Planning ,
Rohtang Project, AFCONS
2. Motera Stadium- Mr. Mualik Shah and Mr. Dutt
3. Jewar Airport
4. Tata Projects Smog Control Tower

Workshops
Students were given an opportunity to get hands-on experience with
technical softwares like Etabs, [Link] and Revit. Organised in
association with Autodesk and Bentley Institute, the certified instructors
from the reputed parent firms of the software, conducted highly technical
and informative sessions with students, detailing various aspects of the
software and technical applications and IS codes. The following workshops
were conducted

1. Autodesk Revit- 5 Day weekday evening workshop in 2-hr sessions

each. The structured course like workshop gave students ample
opportunity and time to digest the content, and explore more than
what is taught. Over the period of workshop, exclusive recordings
were made available to participants to aid the learning process. The
workshop received great positive response with more than 300
participating students.

2. Autodesk InfraWorks- 1 Day, 6 hour session was conducted on the

main event day of Aakaar, to give students an introduction to the
cloud based software. The instructor have ample time to practice
hands-on during workshop. The students , by the end of workshop
were equipped with enough knowledge and practice to be able to
explore further and take up intermediate courses to enhance learning.

3. Autodesk Fusion 360 This relatively new, multi-disciplinary , and

powerful yet lightweight software was introduced to the students,
along with its wide range of applications, in a 6 Hour session on 20th
March. The students modelled various objects ranging from a cup to
complex parts and compartmentalised those to make them
3d-printable. The concept of generative design was perhaps the most
intriguing part of the workshop, and the students seemed eager to
explore it more after the workshop. With over 250 students attending
the live workshop, the session was an enthusiastic success.

4. Bentley Institute [Link] The 8-hour session was conducted by

3 eminent instructors from the Bentley Institute. Starting with
understanding the interface, the session moved on to making various
structural elements and the codes associated with them. The
workshop ended with an exclusive session on Seismic Design by Mr.
Sanjib Das, one of India’s topmost instructor of Bentley Institute. The
session was well received by students with a 300+ participation and
stellar technical feedback.

2. Industrial design problem (Theme: Durability of concrete)

The civil engineering industry deals with many challenges in day-to-day life that most are
unaware of. And to bridge this gap and connect the budding civil engineers of the future to
outside industrial affairs, we conducted an Industrial Design Problem, IDP competition.
The theme of the problem statement revolved around the durability of concrete.
The competition gave the students, the taste of the civil engineering industrial
problems and made them learn and explore the industry.
