Insurance Review Checklist
Instructions to the Assessor
The candidate will review the certificates of the following insurances to ensure they are current and comply
with relevant legal requirements:
Construction insurance, covering materials and building being constructed (or similar insurance)
Subcontractor insurances
Workers’ compensation insurance
The candidate will use this Insurance Review Checklist template to document their review.
Before giving this template to the candidate
1. Access and review all the mandatory insurances for the project as well as the legal requirements
relevant to these insurances. These must include, at a minimum:
Construction insurance, covering materials and building being constructed (or similar
insurance)
Subcontractor insurance
Workers’ compensation insurance
2. Organise the insurance documents/certificates of insurance that the candidate will review as part of
this task. List all the mandatory insurance under the Mandatory Insurance for Review section.
3. Review the checklist items provided here and update them to reflect all the state/territory legal
requirements that apply to these insurances.
E.g. If the project is based in New South Wales, the checklist items for the construction insurance
here must be adapted to cover NSW’s requirements for home building compensation scheme as per
NSW State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA).
Before the candidate commences with their review:
1. Review and discuss the contents of this checklist with the candidate.
2. Address any questions or clarifications they may have about the task or this checklist.

After the candidate completes their review:
1. They will submit to you their completed this Insurance Review Checklist.
2. Review the candidate’s responses in their submission against the actual insurance documents they
reviewed for this task, including at a minimum:
Construction insurance, covering materials and building being constructed (or similar
insurance)
Subcontractor insurance
Workers’ compensation insurance
3. Confirm if the candidate has checked each item below correctly.
For example, if the candidate ticked YES for an item here, the assessor will review this against the
actual document, and they will confirm if the item is really addressed in the document reviewed.
4. Record your assessment of the candidate’s review under the Assessor’s Marking Checklist column.
For each checklist, item:
Tick YES if the candidate’s finding is the same as yours in your assessment.
Tick NO if the candidate’s finding is different from yours in your assessment.
Provide written constructive comments as these will give the candidate guidance on how to improve
their performance in this workplace assessment task.
5. Complete and sign the Assessor’s Declaration section. Your signature must be handwritten.

Before starting your review, discuss the contents of this checklist with your assessor. Your assessor will
provide you with additional instructions on how to go about your review as well as discuss with you the
specific practical skills that you need to demonstrate while conducting construction safety inspection.
Ensure you have completed all fields in this checklist before submitting it to your assessor.
