Sulfate Cell Test: Spectroquant

The document outlines a method for measuring sulfate ions (SO42-) in various water samples using a turbidimetric approach with barium ions, detailing preparation, procedure, and quality assurance steps. It specifies the measuring range, necessary reagents, and potential interferences from foreign substances. Additionally, it includes instructions for sample preparation and the importance of maintaining proper pH levels during analysis.

Samples containing more than 500 mg/l SO42- must be diluted with
distilled water.
Sulfate Cell Test • The pH must be within the range 2 - 10.
Adjust, if necessary, with sodium hydroxide solution or hydrochloric
acid.
• Filter turbid samples through a 0.45 µm membrane filter.
1. Method
Sulfate ions react with barium ions to form slightly soluble barium sulfate. 7. Procedure
The resulting turbidity is measured in the photometer (turbidimetric
method). Pretreated sample 2.0 ml Pipette into a reaction cell and mix.
The method is analogous to EPA 375.4, APHA 4500-SO42- E, and (20 - 40 °C)
