Age Related Word Problems.

Q1. Five years ago, A was Thrice as old as B and ten years later A shall be Twice as old as
B. What are the present ages of A and B?

Q2. A man’s age is three times the sum of the ages of his two sons. After 5 Years, his age
will be twice the sum of the ages of his two sons. Find the age of the man.

Q3. Two years ago, a man was five times as old as his son. Two years later, his age will
be 8 more than three times the age of his son. Find their present ages.

Q4. If twice the son’s age in years is added to the father’s age, the sum is 70. But, if twice
the father’s age is added to the son’s age, the sum is 95. Find the ages of father and son.

Q5. The present age of a woman is 3 years more than three times the age of her
daughter. Three years hence, the woman’s age will be 10 years more than twice the age
of her daughter. Find their present ages.

Fraction Related Word Problems.


Q1. A fraction Becomes 1/3, if 2 is added to both of its numerator and denominator. If 3
is added to both of its numerator and denominator then it becomes 2/5. Find the
fraction.

Q2. The sum of Numerator and denominator of a fraction is 3 less than twice the
denominator. If each of the numerator and denominator is decreased by 1, the fraction
becomes ½. Find the fraction.

Q3. In a given fraction, if the numerator is multiplied by 2 and the denominator is


reduced by 5, we get (6/5). But if the numerator of the given fraction is increased by 8
and the denominator is doubled, we get (2/5). Find the fraction.

Q4. The sum of the numerator and denominator of a fraction is 4 more than twice the
numerator. If the numerator and denominator are increased by 3, they are in the ratio
2:3. Determine the fraction.

Q5. The denominator of a fraction is greater than its numerator by 11. If 8 is added to
both its numerator and denominator, it becomes ¾. Find the fraction.
Speed, distance and time Related problems.
Q1. A man Travels 370 km, partly by train and partly by a car. If he covers 250 km by train
and the rest by car, it takes him 4 hours. But if he travels 130 km by train and the rest by
car, he takes 18 minutes longer. Find the speed of the train and that of that car.

Q2. Places A and B are 100 km apart on a highway. One car starts from A and another
from B at the same time. If the cars travel in the same direction at different speeds, they
meet in 5 Hours. If they travel towards each other, they meet in 1 hour. What are the
speeds of the two cars.

Q3. A train covers a certain distance at a uniform speed. If the train had been 6 kmph
faster, it would have taken 4 hours less than the scheduled time. And, If the train were
slower by 6 kmph, it would have taken 6 hours more than the scheduled time. Find the
length of the journey.

Q4. Abdul travelled 300 km by train and 200 km by taxi taking 5 hours 30 minutes. But, if
he travels 260 km by train and 240 km by taxi, he takes 6 minutes longer. Find the speed
of the train and that of the taxi.

Q5. Places A and B are 160 km apart on a highway. One car starts From A and another
from B at the same time. If they travel in the same direction, they meet 8 hours. But, if
they travel towards each other, they meet in 2 hours. Find the speed of each car.

Fixed charge and per day charges Related Problems.


Q1. Taxi charges in a city consist of fixed charges and the remaining depending upon the
distance travelled in kilometres. If a person travels 60 km, he pays ₹960, and for
travelling 80 km, he pays ₹1260. Find the fixed charges and the rate per Kilometre.

Q2. A part of monthly hostel charges in a school is fixed and the remaining depends on
the number of days one ahs taken food in the mess. When a student A takes food for 22
days, he has to pay ₹4250 as hostel charges, whereas a student B, who take food for 28
days, pays ₹5150 as hostel charges. Find the fixed charges and the cost of food per day.

Q3. Taxi charges in a city consist of fixed charges and the remaining depending upon
the distance travelled in kilometres. If a man travels 80 km, he pays ₹ 1330, and
travelling 90 km, he pays ₹ 1490. Find the fixed charges and rate per km.

Q4. A part of monthly hostel charges is fixed and the remaining depends on the number
of days one has taken food in the mess. When a student A takes food for 25 days he has
to pay 4500 as hostel charges whereas a student who takes B food for 30 days, pays
5200 as hostel charges. Find the fixed charges per month and the cost of food per day.
Q5. A gym has two types of membership plans:

• Basic Plan: It includes a fixed joining fee and a daily usage charge.

• Premium Plan: It has a higher joining fee (₹200 more), but a lower daily usage
charge (₹10 less).

A person using the Basic Plan for 15 days pays a total of ₹1,050.
Another person using the Premium Plan for 20 days pays a total of ₹1,300.

Find the fixed joining fees and daily usage charges.
