Food chain
Tuesday, June 8th, 2021
Dear diary,
Today in class we learned about food chains. I
learned that plants are producers and animals
are consumers. That’s because plants can make
their own food, but animals cannot. Animals
need other things to survive. There are three
types of consumers: the herbivores, the
omnivores, and the carnivores. Herbivores
only eat plants. Omnivores eat animals and
plants. Carnivores only eat animals. I am an
omnivore!
Example:
0. Animals like the grasshopper, the lizard, and the snake are producers /consumers / herbivores.
1. The picture above illustrates a producer /consumer / food chain.
2. Grass and corn are plants. They are consumers / producers / omnivores.

Life around us
Dear diary,
Science is my favorite subject! This month, we’re going to explore animal
life. All 6th graders have to work as a group to document the animal
species in our neighborhood. (1) It’s like a partnership! (2) I think it’s
going to be difficult, but if we cooperate, we can do a good project. (3)
For this project, it’s essential that we take photos of some animals and
their habitats. (4) I want to take pictures of where they store food. This
way we learn how they protect their food so they can eat it later. (5) We
also need to analyze if the animals transfer their food from one place to
another, like ants and squirrels do. I’m super excited!
