1.1 Name of the Project: Water Levels Indicator Using Analog IC
1.2 Objectives:
• To indicate various levels of water filled in any water tank using analog IC
• To complete a project using analog IC, not any microcontroller
1.3 Theory:
A water level indicator is a system that relays information back to a control panel to indicate
whether a body of water has a high or low water level. Some water level indicators use a
combination of probe sensors or float switches to sense water levels. The Water Level Indicator
employs a simple mechanism to detect and indicate the water level in an overhead tank or any
other water container. The purpose of a water level indicator is to gauge and manage water levels
in a water tank. The control panel can also be programmed to automatically turn on a water pump
once levels get too low and refill the water back to the adequate level.
In this project, we built a water levels indicator using analog IC (pnp-C828 transistors). Our desired
was to indicate the 3 levels (low, medium and high). For indication purpose, we used LEDs and
buzzer.
1.4 Required Apparatus:
• PNP transistors – C828 – 2-pieces
• NPN transistor – BD136 – 1-piece
• Battery – 9 volts
• LED – 2-pieces – Red and Orange colors
• Buzzer – LS1 – 1-piece
• Project Board
• Water pot filled with water
• Resistors – (220 kΩ – 4 pieces; 330 kΩ - 2 pieces; 1 kΩ - 1 piece)
1.5 Project Diagram:
Fig. 1.1: Actual circuit diagram for water levels indicator using analog IC
1.6 Observations:
For low level;
When the water reached at the low level of our water pot, then the red LED of the project diagram
was on.
Fig. 1.2: Observation for low level
For medium level;
When the water reached at the medium level of our water pot, then both of the red and orange
LEDs of the project diagram were on.
Fig. 1.3: Observation for medium level
For high level;
Finally, when the water reached at the high level of our water pot, then both of the red and orange
LEDs of the project diagram were on also the buzzer rang successfully.
1.7 Discussion:
Thus, we have done the mini project of water levels indicator using analog IC successfully. We
indicated 3 levels of water of our used water pot. In this project, the same model of PNP transistors
are used. But, in case of buzzer indicator NPN transistor is used for proper indication purpose.
