PLACEMENT TEST – SPEAKING

Greeting:

1. Hello. My name is Ms. ….

2. What’s your name?

Part 1: Input-Based Questions (4 pts)

1.1. The examiner first familiarizes the child with the picture and
then asks the child to point out certain items in the scene. (2 pts)

Examiner: Look at this. This is a living room. The boy is watching TV. Here’s
the window.

 Where is the guitar? (0.4 pts)

 Where are the flowers? (0.4 pts)

 Where is the chair? (0.4 pts)

 Where is the table? (0.4 pts)

 Where is the laptop? (0.4 pts)


1.2 The examiner asks the child to place objects in various locations
within the scene. (2 pts)

First, T asks Ss to point to the objects. Ss can tell T the number of the object.

(a) Which one is the cup? (0.5 pts)

 I am putting the cup on the sofa. (Using the features in the slide to
place the pencil on the sofa.)

 (1) Put the cup under the table. (0.5 pts)

(b) Which one is the apple? (0.5 pts)

 (2) Put the apple between the books. (0.5 pts)


Part 2: Close-Ended Questions (2 pts)

2.1 The examiner asks questions about two of the people or objects in the
scene.

1. What is this? (pointing to the bag) (0.3 pts)

2. What color is it? (0.3 pts)

3. How many bags are there? (0.3 pts)

4. What is the girl doing? (pointing to the girl) (0.3 pts)

5. Where is the chair? (0.3 pts)

6. How is the weather? (0.3 pts)

Note: If Ss struggle to answer some questions, T can provide binary options.

 E.g., How is the weather? Is it sunny or rainy?

 If Ss answer using binary choices, 50% of the score is deducted.


Part 3: Open-Ended Questions (2 pts)

The examiner asks questions about the objects and personalizes the
questions.

1. What’s this? (pointing to the sandwich) (0.2 pts)

- Do you like sandwiches? (0.2 pts)

- What is your favorite food? (0.2 pts)

- Where do you make sandwich? In your bedroom or in your living


room? (0.2 pts)

2. What’s this? (pointing to the ball) (0.2 pts)

- What do you like to play? (0.2 pts)

3. (Pointing to the bicycles)

- Is this a motorbike? (0.2 pts)

- What is this? (0.2 pts)

- Can you ride a bicycle? (0.2 pts)

4. How old are you? (0.2 pts)

2pts (performance);

1. Students can respond to the questions with little to no hesitation. (1 pt)

2. Students can pronounce most words and phrases correctly, with a decent
level of intelligibility. (1 pt)
Level:
