Tutorial 2 Questions

The document outlines a power system analysis involving a generator, transformers, a transmission line, and a load. It requires calculations of base values for voltage, current, impedance, and apparent power, as well as the conversion to a per-unit system and determination of power supplied to the load and losses in the transmission line. Additionally, it includes a separate analysis of a three-phase power system with specific ratings and the need to draw an impedance diagram and calculate terminal voltage and internal emf in per-unit and kV.

Find the solution by working in per unit on a base of 4.4 kV,127 A.

Q2. A simple power system is shown in the gure. This system contains a 480V generator connected to an
ideal 1:10 step-up transformer, a transmission line, an ideal 20:1 step-down transformer and a load. The
impedance of the transmission line is 20+J60 , and the impedance of the load is 10 30 . The base values
for this system are chosen to be 480V and 10 kVA at the generator.

a. Find the base voltage, current, impedance and apparent power at every point in the power system.

b. Convert this system to its per-unit equivalent circuit.

c. Find the power supplied to the load in this system.

d. Find the power lost in the transmission line.

a. Draw an impedance diagram showing all impedance in per-unit on a 100-MVA base. Choose 20kV as the
voltage base for generator.
b. The motor is drawing 45 MVA, 0.80 power factor lagging at a line-to-line terminal voltage of 18kV.
Determine the terminal voltage and the internal emf of the generator in per-unit and in kV.
