LAC Session on Effective Pedagogical Strategies
that Enhance Learners’ Achievement in Araling Panlipunan
On September 27, 2024, the teachers of San Felipe Elementary School
gathered for a Learning Action Cell (LAC) session to discuss ways to enhance
pupils’ engagement and learning outcomes in Araling Panlipunan. Recognizing
the importance of keeping lessons relevant and interactive, the session focused
on three key strategies: incorporating current events into lessons, gamifying
classroom activities, and integrating digital tools to enrich teaching. The teachers
first explored the potential of Balitaan sa Napapanahong Isyu, a strategy that
connects lesson content with timely events to make learning more engaging and
meaningful. By starting each class with a discussion on current events, they
aimed to foster critical thinking and help students see the real-world relevance of
the topics they were studying. This approach was met with enthusiasm, as it
provided a practical way to make the subject matter more relatable and
dynamic.
Another key strategy discussed was gamification, where traditional Filipino
games such as Ikot Repolyo and Tumbang Preso were adapted to review Araling
Panlipunan topics. By merging play with academic content, the teachers found a
way to make learning both fun and educational. Additionally, the integration of
ICT tools like interactive quizzes, multimedia presentations and online resources
was seen as crucial for modernizing their teaching methods. It makes lessons
more dynamic and engaging, offering pupils a more interactive learning
experience.
In conclusion, the LAC session demonstrated the teachers' shared
commitment to improve learning outcomes in Araling Panlipunan. By embracing
innovative strategies such as integrating current events, gamification, and ICT
tools, they aim to create a more engaging and relevant learning environment.
