Worksheet 1 Gr.6

The worksheet for Grade 6 Science at High Gate Academy covers Earth's structure, rotation, and seasonal changes affecting sunlight and shadows. It includes questions about Earth's rotation duration, the movement of the Sun, and the relationship between seasons and shadow length. Additionally, it discusses how farmers historically utilized shadow patterns for agricultural planning.

Student’s Name:
Material included Science and Math Department Worksheet
Planet Earth Grade: 6
Date: Subject: Science
Teacher’s Name: Malak Tawalbeh
1. Earth’s Structure and Sunlight:
o The equator divides Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
o Regions near the equator receive direct sunlight year-round, casting shorter shadows compared
to higher latitudes.
2. Earth’s Rotation and Shadows:
o Earth rotates on its axis (an imaginary line through the poles) every 24 hours, causing the Sun
to appear to move from east to west.
o Shadows change length/position based on the Sun’s angle:
 Morning/Evening: Sun is low → long shadows.
 Noon: Sun is high → short shadows (directly below objects).
3. Seasonal Changes:
 Earth’s tilt (23.5°) and orbit cause seasonal changes in sunlight and shadows.
 Winter: Longer shadows (Sun lower in the sky).
 Summer: Shorter shadows (Sun higher in the sky).
o These effects are more pronounced farther from the equator.
o Farmers used shadow patterns, temperature, and climate to plan planting/harvesting.
