With transformer rated values as base quantities, express impedances in per
unit. Working with per unit values, determine the line to line voltage at the high voltage
terminals of the transformer and the sending end of the feeder.
The three-phase power and line to line ratings of the electric power system
shown in Figure 1 are given below
Figure 1
G1 60MVA 20kV X=9%
T1 50 MVA 20/200kV X=10%
T2 50 MVA 200/20kV X=10%
M 43.2MVA 18kV X=8%
Line 200kV Z=120+j200
(a) Draw an impedance diagram showing all impedances in per-unit on a 100-MVA
base. Choose 20kV as the voltage base for generator.
(b) The motor is drawing 45 MVA, 080 power factor lagging at a line to line terminal
voltage of 18kV. Determine the terminal voltage and the internal emf of the
generator in per unit and in kV.

7. Figure 2 shows the one line diagram of a three phase power system. By
selecting a common base of 100 MVA and 22 kV on the generator side, draw an
impedance diagram showing all impedances including the load impedance in per unit.
The data are given as below.
G: 90 MVA 22kV X=0.18 per unit
T1:50MVA 22/220 kV X=0.10 per unit
T2:40MVA 220/11 kV X=0. 06 per unit
T3:40MVA 22/110 kV X=0. 064 per unit
T4:40MVA 110/11 kV X=0. 08 per unit
M: 66.5 MVA 10.45 kV X=0.185 per unit
phase load absorbs 57 MVA at 10.45 kV and 0.6 power factor lagging
When the motor operates at full load, at 0.8 power factor leading, and at a terminal
voltage of 10.45 kV (a) determine the voltage at bus 1 (i.e. at the generator bus) and (b)
the generator and motor internal EMF.

8. Consider an electric circuit as shown in Figure 3.
Transformers are rated as follows:
X-Y 15 MVA, 13.8/138 kV leakage reactance 10%
Y-Z 15 MVA, 138/69 kV leakage reactance 8%
With the base in circuit Y chosen as 15 MVA, 138 kV, determine the per unit impedance
magnetizing currents, transformer resistances and line impedances, draw the
impedance diagram in per unit.

Figure 4 showing all impedances in per unit on a 100-MVA base. Choose 20 kV as the
voltage base for generator. The three phase power and line-line ratings are given below.
G1: 90 MVA 20kV X=9%; T1: 80 MVA 20/200 kV X=16%
T2: 80 MVA 200/20 kV X=20%; G2: 90 MVA 18kV X=9%;
