Answer: The three questions that occurred to the king were:
What was the right time to do anything?

Q2. Was the king satisfied with the answers? Why?


Answer: No, the king was not satisfied with the answers because all the answers were different and the king could
not agree with any of them.

Q3. Explain the various answers given by the learned men for the first question of the king.
Answer: To know the right time for each action, the learned men said,
 to draw in advance a table of days, months, and years and live according to it.
 it is impossible to find the answer for the right time for each action.
 not to be absorbed in idle pastimes, but to attend to all that was going on and do what was most-needful.
 it was impossible for one man to decide the right time correctly.
 the king must have a council of wise men to help him fix the proper time for everything.
Q4. Why was the king advised to go to the magicians?
Answer: Only the magicians knew beforehand what was going to happen. The king must consult the magicians to
know the right time for every right action. So the king was advised to consult a magician.

Q5. Whose advice did the people say would be important to the king in answer to the second question?
Answer: In answer to the second question, the advice of the councillors, priests, doctors, and warriors would be
important to the king.

Q6. Why did the king go to the wise hermit? Why did he go there alone and dressed like a commoner?
Answer: The king went to the wise hermit to get the answers to his three questions.
The hermit received only the commoners, so the king went alone and was dressed like a commoner.

Q7. Who was the bearded man who came running from the woods? How had he got wounded?
Answer: The bearded man who came running from the woods was the king’s enemy, who came to take revenge on
him for his brother’s execution.
He was intended to kill the king but the king’s bodyguards recognized him and wounded him.

Q8. How did the king and the hermit restore the life of a wounded man?
Answer: The king and the hermit unfastened the man’s clothing. The king washed the wound in his stomach and
bandaged it with his handkerchief and with a towel the hermit had. When the blood stopped flowing, the king gave
him fresh water for him to drink. Then the king, with the hermit’s help, carried the wounded man into the hut and
laid him on the bed.

Q9. How did digging of beds for the hermit save the king’s life?
Answer: If the king had not helped the hermit by digging the beds and had gone his way, the enemy in ambush
would have attacked him. So, the digging of beds for the hermit saved the king’s life.

Q10. Briefly explain the answer the king got to his three questions. Making these answers your base, comment on
the importance of the present moment in our life.
Answer: Present time is the important time. It is the time when we have some power to do, we are the master of
present time. We must not waste it idly our future depends on the best use of our present time. The people who are
with us in the present are the most important ones and to help the needy is the most important work.

Q11. What do you know about the hermit of this lesson?


Answer: The wise hermit lived in the wood which he never quitted. He met only common folks there. He was frail,
weak, tired in a hut and worked hard.

Q12.‘Knowledge gained through experience is far superior to and many times more useful than
theoretical knowledge.’
Discuss the above statement in the light of the fact that the hermit did not answer the king’s questions as soon as
they were put to him.
Answer: Knowledge gained through experience is far superior to that of theoretical knowledge, practical knowledge
is more convincing than theoretical knowledge. The hermit could have given the answer to the king’s question, but
he waited for the right moment as the incident took place with the bearded man the hermit explained the answer
and the king returned satisfactorily.
