Product Specification Sheet:

Tinotraffic Paint F52 & F53

Solvent-based traffic paints
Tinotraffic Paint F52 (Type II Q.D.), Series 9500
Tinotraffic Paint F53 (Type III reflectorized), Series 9900

CHARACTERISTICS
High quality solvent based traffic paints incorporating special types and combinations of quick drying
chlorinated rubber and drying oil alkyd resins with selected pigments in appropriate formulations to give high
road and airfield performance paints with good UV resistance.
These paints meet the specifications of the building industry and are resistant to CO 2 and other acid gaseous
compounds diffusion into concrete structures that cause damage by carbonation.
Tinotraffic Paint F52, type II (quick drying) and type I (slower drying) are ready mixed pigmented binders
free from glass beads. They can be made reflectorized by the use of glass spheres of appropriate type and
gradation conforming to US Federal Specs. TT-B-1325C in a drop-on method. The drop-on method insures
immediate light reflection and improves the visibility at night or under adverse conditions.
Tinotraffic Paint F53, type III (premixed reflectorized paint) contains glass spheres conforming to US Fed.
Specs. TT-B-1325C, type I gradation B (low index of refraction).

TECHNICAL DATA
Tinotraffic paints comply with US Specification - Commercial Item Description A-A-2886A of May 1, 1997
(superseding TT-P-85E of Sept. 15, 1977) and British Specification BS 6044 for Pavement Marking Paints.

RECOMMENDED USES
On concrete, asphalt, cement, curb stone and brick surfaces, as well as metal & wood.
Type II: for marking airfield runways and pavements, streets & highways, tunnels, parking areas and safety
zones, striping roads and floors etc...
Type I: for marking smaller jobs.
Type III: reflectorized, for marking traffic lanes and pavements, streets & highways, tunnels, airfield taxiways
and parking areas, safety zones, striping roads and floors etc...

SURFACE PREPARATION
Surfaces should be solid clean and dry, free from dust, dirt, oils, salts and other contaminants. Deteriorated
previous coatings should be removed completely. Non-disintegrated old or worn lines need be cleaned,
tested for compatibility and adhesion.

PRIMING
Usually, no primer is required, but highly absorbent concrete surfaces need impregnation with SUPER
TINOLAC PRIMER SEALER 15220 extensively diluted.

THINNING
No thinning is required, apply as supplied. If necessary for spray application, use TINOSOLVE 1004 up to
10% by volume.

APPLICATION
Type II is applied by airfield & road marking spraying machines, or other appropriate spraying devices for
major runways or highways marking works.
Recommended application thickness is 0.38 mm (15 mils) wet film thickness.
Type I could be sprayed, brush or roll applied for smaller marking works.
Type III reflectorized, is applied by road marking machines for medium to major works. The beads in the
paint may be covered and initially obscured after application, and will take some time for the paint to wear
and be rubbed off the top of the beads, to give the required reflectance.
For reflectorization, glass beads conforming to US Fed. Standards TT-B-1325C should be uniformly spread
by a drop-on-method on the wet paint immediately after application.
High Index glass beads, type III gradation A, are specified for use on runways, at a rate of 10 lbs per gallon of
paint (TT-P-85E).
Low Index glass beads, type I gradation A, are specified for roads, highways & traffic lanes at a rate of 6 lbs
per gallon of paint (TT-P-115F).
For a higher level of reflectance, extra glass beads complying to US Fed. Specs. TT-B-1325C could be dis-
pensed on the wet paint immediately after application, at a rate of 5lbs per gallon of paint (TT-P-87C).
Tools and equipment should be flushed clean with solvent immediately after use.

DRYING TIME
As determined by ASTM D-711 standard:
Types I & III: - Dust free: < 10 minutes - No-pick-up time: < 25 minutes
Type II: - Dust free: < 5 minutes - No-pick-up time: 7 minutes

GLOSS
Low luster finish.

COVERAGE
To meet International Specifications of marking, content of 1 US gallon of paint is recommended to be ap-
plied at a rate of about 10sq.m. giving a wet film thickness of about 0.38 mm (15 mils) and a dry film thick-
ness of about 0.19 mm (7.35 mils).

COLORS
