1. Who invented the keyboard of the Typewriter?

2. What is a Standard/universal keyboard?
A Qwerty Keyboard is often called a standard/universal keyboard
3. Define character keys and modifier keys on the keyboard.
The character keys can be used to type a letter and other characters. There are three rows of
keys for typing letters and punctuation signs, an upper row for typing digits and special symbols, and a
space bar on the bottom
A modifier key is a special key on a computer keyboard that temporarily modifies the normal
action of another key when pressed together. Eg.- Shift, Alt, Ctrl
4. Why nowadays, is the keyboard called a QWERTY keyboard?
QWERTY refers to the first six letters on the upper row of the keyboard.
5. Explain the different methods of operating the keyboard.
1. Sight Method OR Hunt & Peck/Search & Peck
Sight Method or (two-fingered typing), also known as search and peck, is a common style of
typing, in which the typist must find and press each key individually. This is usually slower
than touch typing, as the typist must find each key by sight.
2. Touch Method OR Blind Method
A touch system means mentally locating the position of the keys by a sense of touch without
looking at the keyboard.
6. Why touch system is superior to the sight system?
The Computer Operator does not tire even after many hours of work because the work is divided
among all the fingers of both hands. Since the eyesight remains on the matter to be typed, there are
fewer chances of omission of words or lines. Unnecessary movement of eyesight is also avoided
7. Differentiate between the horizontal and vertical typing
The horizontal type of tool adds text horizontally and the vertical type of tool adds text
vertically.
8. Explain what the sitting posture of the typist should be.
The body must be upright, the shoulders should be relaxed, and the feet should be flat on the floor.
9. Name the Home keys.
The home row keys for your left hand are A, S, D, and F and your right hand are J, K, l, and ;
10. Name the thumb striking the space bar.
Right-handed people tend to use their right thumb to hit the space bar, and left-handed people
their left thumb.
