Lesson Plan in SCIENCE
Grade 10 -Junior High School
Learning Competencies:
Describe how the nervous system coordinates and regulates these feedback
mechanisms to maintain homeostasis.
MELC Code (Subject Code):
S10LTIIIc-36
I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Identify the major parts of the nervous system.
2. Describe the structure and functions of the central and peripheral
nervous systems.
3. Illustrate how the nervous system processes and transmits information.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Coordinated Functions of the Nervous, Endocrine, and
Reproductive Systems
Sub-Topic: The Nervous System ( The Structured of the Nervous System)
Values Integration:Encourage students to ask questions, think critically,
and explore the complexities of the nervous system, fostering a love for
learning and intellectual curiousity
Subject Integration: Science Grade 10

Learner’s Material, pp. 225-229
Instructional Materials:
- Pictures
- Video Clip
- Powerpoint Presentation
III. Procedure
A. Preliminary of Lesson
1. Review: Begin by asking students some recall questions to activate
their prior knowledge
2. Motivation:
•Write the word "Nervous System" on the board.
•Ask students to say any word that comes to mind when they hear
"Nervous System" (e.g., brain, spinal cord, nerves, signals).
•Write their responses on the board
•The teacher will show a powerpoint presentation to discuss and
explain the definition, and structures of Nervous System
Comprehension Check:
a. Why is the nervous system important in regulating body
temperature, heart rate, or breathing?
b. What will be the possible topic given by the speaker?
B. Presentation of Lesson
a. Introduce the Nervous System as the body's control center.
b. Briefly explain that the nervous system controls and coordinates
body functions, including its connection with the endocrine and
reproductive systems.
C. Lesson Proper
C.1. Activity
“Build the Nervous System”
1.Divide the class into small groups.
2.Provide printed puzzle pieces or drawings of the nervous system (brain,
spinal cord, nerves). And a visual picture of body part for them to place the
label of each part.
3.Ask them to assemble the system correctly and label each part.
4.Each group will explain the function of their assigned part.
.
C.2. Analysis
1. Ask the students:
a. Why do you think the brain is the main control center of the nervous
system?
b. What is the role of the spinal cord in the nervous system?
c. How do nerves help connect the brain and spinal cord to the rest of
the body?
2.The teacher should restate the main points concisely to reinforce learning.
C.3. Abstraction
1. What happens when you accidentally step on something sharp? How
does your nervous system help you react?
2. Why do doctors check your reflexes by tapping your knee?
3. How do athletes train their nervous system to react faster?
C.4. Application
1. Summarize Key Points
•The teacher briefly reviews the major parts of the nervous system
(Brain, Spinal Cord, and Nerves).
•Reinforce how these structures work together to control body
functions.
2. Real-Life Connection Questions:
•What happens when you accidentally step on something sharp? How
does your nervous system help you react?
•Why do doctors check your reflexes by tapping your knee?
•How do athletes train their nervous system to react faster?
3. Think-Pair-Share Activity
•Students think about one daily activity (e.g., writing, walking, eating).
•They pair with a classmate to discuss which parts of the nervous
system are involved.
•They share their answers with the class.
IV. Evaluation
Direction: After the discussion and activities, the teacher should assess
students' understanding of the structure of the nervous system.
A. Written Quiz (10 points)
Directions: Answer the following questions.
1. What are the two main parts of the nervous system?
2. Which part of the nervous system acts as the body’s "command center"?
3.What is the function of the spinal cord?
4.How do nerves help the brain communicate with the rest of the body?
5.Draw and label the three main parts of the nervous system.
B. Exit Ticket (Quick Reflection Activity)
•Before leaving, students answer on a small paper or in their notebook:
-One thing I learned today about the nervous system is…
-One question I still have is…
V. Assignment
Instructions: In a 1/4 sheet of paper. Answer the question (10 pts.)
1. What are the main parts of the nervous system? Briefly describe each part.
