Unit 3 – Create your first API Proxy


UNIT 3 – CREATE YOUR FIRST API PROXY

SCENARIO
In this scenario we will create a very simple first API Proxy. This proxy will not leverage any of the multiple
features from SAP API Management, but is mainly intended to set the stage, e.g.
• Get an account on HCP Trial
• Ensure access to a public SAP Gateway OData service
• Get a first glance at SAP API Management

Prerequisites
None

Register and log on to SAP HANA Cloud Portal Trial

PART 1

1. Go to

[Link]/cockpit

2. If you already have a user, click


on “Log on” and continue with
Step #5, if not click on
“Register”

3. Enter the required information


and click on “Register”

4. After some time you should


receive an email with an
Activation link

5. Before logging on to the HCP


Cockpit, register to the SAP
Gateway system ES4. Go to

on “Sign up here!”

7. And click through a few Sign-up


and legal forms / confirmations

8. In the final step you will be


informed about another
confirmation email that is sent
to your email address and your
temporary password is shown.

9. In this email you will see your


P-user and the new password
for the SAP Gateway ES4
system which we will need later
on.

10. Now log on to the HCP Cockpit,


[Link]
.com/cockpit with your P-user
and the HCP password!

Note: this is not the password


of the SAP Gateway ES4 user
which was created in the
previous setup, but the
password from step #3.

11. In the HCP Cockpit, select


“Services” on the left hand side

12. On the right hand side, scroll


down to the “Integration”
section and click on the SAP
API Management tile

13. In the SAP API Management


view click on “Enable” and wait
until the status changes to
“Enabled”
Note: If activation fails, click on
Enable again. Repeat this several
time. Please also create a ticket
under OPU-API-OD-DT

14. Now click on the “Access SAP


API Management API Portal”
link to open the API Portal

15. In the API Portal click on the


Hamburger Menu and select
“Develop”

16. In the Manage screen, click on


the “Create” button in the top
left corner.

17. Enter
[Link]
m/sap/opu/odata/iwbep/GWSA
MPLE_BASIC as the URL for
the API Proxy.

18. For Name, Title and API Base


Path choose
GWSAMPLE_BASIC_Simple

19. Then click on “Create”

20. In the final step click on “Save


And Deploy”

21. Now the API Proxy has been


created. You can copy the API
Proxy URL

22. And open it in a new browser


window
23. When prompted for a username
and password, enter the P-user
and the SAP Gateway ES4
password from step #10. You
may be asked to enter the
credentials twice.
