IE Chap 3 - Displacement Transducers

The document discusses displacement transducers, focusing on potentiometric transducers used for measuring linear and angular displacement. It highlights their common use in industry, while also noting limitations such as temperature sensitivity, accuracy issues, and wear on components. Additionally, it briefly mentions LVDT and RVDT as types of displacement sensors.

Displacement (Position) Transducers
2
Potentiometric transducers
3

 Displacement is the difference between the position

of some object and a reference point .
 Displacement can be linear (Straight line) or rotary
(Angular) .
 Potentiometric transducers can be used to measure
both linear and angular displacement
 Very common transducers in industry
Linear & Angular Potentiometers
4
Limitations of Potentiometric Transducers
5

 Although they are low cost and very commonly used

in industry but:
 Temperature sensitive which affects their accuracy
 Considered as low to medium accuracy transducers
 Wiper being subject to wear and tear , potentially
producing electrical noise or error
