Lesson Plan in Carbon Cycle

The lesson plan for Grade 8 focuses on the Carbon Cycle, aiming for students to understand energy flow and material cycling in ecosystems. Students will engage in activities such as creating posters, sequencing events in the Carbon Cycle, and explaining the cycle using verbs. Various teaching materials, including videos and PowerPoint presentations, will be utilized to enhance learning and evaluation.

LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 8

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards
 The learners demonstrate an understanding of the one-way flow of energy
and the cycling of materials in an ecosystem.
B. Performance Standards
 The learners should be able to make a poster comparing food choices based
on the trophic levels.
C. Learning Competencies
 Explain how materials cycle in an ecosystem
*Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. Identifies the process of the cycle,
b. Draws the Carbon cycle and identifies the sequences occurred in the cycle,
c. Give information about carbon cycle with the use of verbs.
*Interface/ Across
a. Sequence the series of events in the Carbon Cycle,
b. Identify the signal words used in the series of events
c. Give information about the Carbon Cycle with the use of verbs.
(EN7LC-IV-d-2.7) (EN7G-IV-d-5)

Teaching Materials:
PowerPoint Presentation
Pictures
Videos on Carbon cycle
IV. PROCEDURES
Teacher’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Classroom Management
2. A student will lead a prayer
3. Checking of attendance
B. Motivation
1. Let the student watch a video clip of the “Ice on Fire”
(https://m.imdb.com/Iceonfire/tt9114472) that will lead to the topic to
be tackled later on, questioning and answering portion will follow
C. Activate
1) The teacher presents the content and performance standards and
learning competencies/ objectives based on the curriculum guide.
C. Immerse
1. Discuss the lesson
2. Let the student watch the video on the sequence of events occurred in
a Carbon Cycle
3. While explaining the concept, the teacher will ask formative questions
to the students to make sure that they are listening.
4. And to further know what they learn, give them an activity. (see
attached activity 1 and 2)
D. Synthesis
1. To generalize what has been discussed, the teacher will present the
gist of the lesson first and then allow the students to orally recite what
they learned and highlight the important concepts that encapsulates
the lesson.
E. Evaluate
1. The teacher will ask the students to explain the Carbon Cycle with the
use of verbs. (see attached activity 3)
F. Plus
1. The class would be divided into 7 groups and each group should draw
the Carbon Cycle in a ½ cardboard.

Instruction: Arrange the following events occurred in a Carbon Cycle in order. (A – D)

1. Next, Carbon Dioxide is absorbed by producers (life forms that make their
own food e.g. plants) to make carbohydrates in photosynthesis. These producers then put
off oxygen.

2. Finally, the dead organisms (dead plants and animals) are eaten by
decomposers in the ground. The Carbon that was in their bodies is then returned to the
atmosphere as carbon dioxide. In some circumstances the process of decomposition is
prevented. The decomposed plants and animals may then be available as fossil fuels in the
future for combustion.

3. First, Carbon enters the atmosphere as carbon dioxide from respiration

(breathing) and combustion (burning).

4. Then, Animals feed on the plants. Thus, passing the carbon compounds
along the food chain. Most of the carbon these animals consume however is exhaled as
carbon dioxide. This is through the process of respiration.

Activity 3

Instruction: In your own understanding, explain or give information about the Carbon Cycle
with the use of Verbs.
