Wrought Steel products Sectional Committee, MTD 04

FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Fourth Revision) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft
finalized by the Wrought Steel Products Sectional Committee had been approved by the Metallurgical
Engineering Division Council.

This standard was first published in 1962 and subsequently revised in 1982, 1992 and 2009. While reviewing this
standard, in the light of experience gained during these years, the Committee decided to amend it to bring it in
line with the present practices being followed by the Indian industry and global standards of steel plates for
pressure vessel for intermediate and high temperature service including boilers.

In this revision the following modifications have been made:

a) Modifications have been done in 2, 3.3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13 and 16;

b) Based on the manufacture being practiced globally and taking inputs from accepted practices,
modification has been incorporated in 6. The minimum reduction ratio has been modified to include
2.0 : 1 under stipulated conditions; and
c) Requirements for ultrasonic testing and corresponding acceptance norms have been modified.

For the tests specified in this standard (chemical/physical/others), the method as specified in the relevant
ISO standard may also be followed as an alternate method.

The composition of the Committee responsible for formulation of this standard is given in Annex B.

For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value,
observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with
IS 2 : 2022 ‘Rules for rounding off numerical values (second revision)ʼ. The number of significant places
retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.
