1. CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

Colors have exciting, relaxing, troubling, and symbolic roles, which means
they may stimulate our emotions (Holtzschue, 2011). Chromatics has been
acknowledged as one of the crucial topics in design education. Aside from that,
colors help us understand relevant information like attractiveness, safety, or
danger (Gutsch, 2011). Therefore, it is essential for us to use the mediation of
color to experience and engage with the items we come into contact with every
day. As a result, chromatics has been viewed as an indispensable tool in design
education as the use of colors plays a vital role in determining the success of a
product in the marketplace (Holtzschue, 2011).Mathematics is an area of
knowledge that has fundamental meaning. In a deeper context, mathematics is
inclined into many fields. It has been a tool for the continuous development of all
other sciences.

In Mathematics colors has been used in different context . Through chromatic

Learning, especially in mathematics learning, is a sophisticated cognitive
function. It is influenced by a variety of things, including short- and long-term
memory, the capacity to recall mathematical knowledge, and visual and spatial
perception skills (Chinn, 2004). The extent to which many explanations for
students' difficulty in learning mathematics have been found in previous studies;
some of these reasons may be relative. Different students learn mathematics in
different ways due to cognitive, affective, and contextual aspects.

The relationship between mathematical learning and specific cognitive

characteristics has been researched by educational psychologists. According to
Geary (2011), processing speed, working memory, and IQ all have an impact on
math ability. It is found that as the students move to higher grades, due to reasons
including their lack of previous knowledge they are getting worse in mathematics.
Difficulty in learning mathematics is found as a common and significant problem
throughout the school years.

Despite its widespread relevance and usefulness, a lot of students find

mathematics as difficult and boring. This maybe the reason why a lot of students
are getting a bad grade and low test score and q Education uizzes. According to

the Department of - National Reports of Philippined (2019), students in the

Philippines have not beenparticipating in international standardized exams
forover a decade now. In 2003, fourth grade students inthe Philippines ranked
23rd out of 25 countries andin 2008, during which only students from sciencehigh
schools participated, the Philippines ranked last among ten countries
participating.

In teaching and learning, some research shows that the most crucial part is to
find a suitable approaches to be used in teaching. One of the most factors that
causes student to become passive and interactive when it comes in teaching-
learning and doing activities are the improper use and not utilizing differentiated
approaches. In connection to this, teachers should utilized differentiated
instruction that is flexible, adaptable and enjoyable in order to cater the students
needs.

One of the main learning trends of the twenty-first century is the use of Game-
based learning in education (Ahmad and Iksan, 2021) and in recent years it has
drawn more and more scholarly interest (Zou, 2020). GBL is a method of
teaching mathematics that balances in-person instruction with online learning
while maximizing learning effectiveness using student-centered learning activities
(Lasut and Bawengan, 2020). Additionally, it is one of the more innovative and
enjoyable techniques, and pupils will, inadvertently, pay attention to the teacher's
lessons. This is because pupils naturally enjoy playing video games. In addition,
educational games might help students develop a love of learning, the confidence
to face a variety of challenges along the way, and the patience and focus to get
through them (Liu et al., 2021). All of these traits are essential for higher
education in the development of lifelong learners.

This tactic is also grounded in constructivist learning, which emphasizes the

value of social interactions with peers and the environment for experiential
learning (Hourdequin et al., 2017). There is a lot of evidence showing that GBL is
popularizing as a successful learning strategy used to develop an engaging
learning environment. The success of digital games in the educational setting has
further demonstrated the potential of GBL in enhancing motivation, engagement,
and social influences on the basis of empirical evidence from recent studies
(Hernández-lara and Serradell-lopez, 2018).

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

Digital and non-digital games are the two categories of games, according to
Wong and Osman (2018). The goal of GBL, whether it takes the shape of digital
or analog games, is to meet the established learning objectives. The GBL
technique is utilized, in accordance with Khairuddin and Mailok (2019), to
encourage and motivate students to engage more fully in the learning process, to
make learning more fun, and to help the students better understand the courses.
With the help of the GBL technique, teachers may include active learning into
their lessons, boost student interest and engagement, and get immediate
feedback on their performance.

It should be mentioned that educators should closely monitor how

gamification impacts the relationships, emotionality, and cognitive activity of their
students because these are three components of the learning process.
Gamification in pedagogy is still having trouble being accepted and engaging
(Ding et al., 2018). When students have unique requirements, gamification
strategies should not be implemented as effectively (Mohamed Rosly and Khalid,
2017). This is because the efficiency of gamification implementation will depend
on the student's degree of competency. This systematic literature review (SLR)
was done to find out how using a game-based learning (GBL) strategy in T&L
Mathematics affected the cognitive and affective dimensions.

Games are thought to be a useful educational tool for accelerating learning,

presenting difficult content, and promoting systemic thinking (Ding et al., 2018).
There is coverage of numbers, algebra, geometry, arithmetic, calculus, problem-
solving, and other mathematical themes. Math knowledge and skills can be
acquired by students in early education, primary school, secondary school, and
university through game-based learning. Active learning through gamification,
which enables the students to learn through playing games and make better use
of their lessons, is one of the most successful learning methodologies. The
conceptual and logical knowledge of training groups employing video games has
greatly grown (Mohd et al., 2020). using game-based learning (GBL) to teach
themes.

For instance, educational video games employ software that can enhance
arithmetic teachings and pupils' problem-solving abilities (Acquah and Katz,
2020). In addition, it has been discovered that using digital games for studying

mathematics helps pupils retain information and comprehend difficult

mathematical ideas. In other words, Digital game-based Learning can operate as
a link between students' abstract mathematical learning and their tangible
understanding of the subject. They are afterwards able to learn the specific
procedures for dealing with diverse mathematical issues. Teachers can assist
their students with formulating circumstances into mathematical forms, using
concepts, facts, methods, and reasoning, as well as interpreting, applying, and
evaluating mathematical outcomes using various DGBL applications where the
mathematical lesson content is modified to fit the game. Additionally, the usage of
digital game-based learning, such as educational math games or simulation
games, has an impact on students' high-level thinking skills as well as their
mathematical abilities, particularly through the numerous reasoning problems in
DGBL mathematical exercises. As it aims to develop logical, critical, creative,
imaginative, and analytical thinking to better handle a variety of mathematical
problems, this topic is a crucial one when learning mathematics (Mahmud et al.,
2021).

Furthermore, to be able provide a good learning approach an alternative

soulution should be provided for the above mentioned difficulties. One of the
solution is creating a mathematical game that will help students mood and
enhance their motivation. The implementation of the game is in accordance with
the enhancement of students mathematical achievement. The game will make
the students happy and motivated while they are learning.

The Perya-Chromatiká Paichnídia will be develop and use in this study in

which it is a game that will enhance students achievement in mathematics and
their skills specially in solving different mathematical problems.

The aim of this study is to investigate the level of acceptance of the students
to the game Perya Chromatiká Paichnídia. It generally aims to add valuable
insights to the mathematical approches and provides important suggestions to
improve student achievement in mathematics.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

These action research aims to explore the impact of Perya Chromatiká Paichnídia on
student learning, engagement, and teacher experiences in the context of Grade 10
Mathematics education of Ramon National High School.

1. How does the incorporation of Perya Chromatiká Paichnídia enhance

students' understanding and retention of algebraic concepts in Grade 10
Mathematics?
2. What specific algebraic topics demonstrate the greatest improvement in
comprehension when taught through Perya Chromatiká Paichnídia
compared to traditional teaching methods?
3. To what extent does the use of Perya Chromatiká Paichnídia increase
student engagement and motivation in Grade 10 Mathematics
classrooms?
4. How does the academic performance of students who experience Perya
Chromatiká Paichnídia-based instruction compare to those taught through
traditional methods in Grade 10 Mathematics?
5. What are the teachers' perceptions regarding the integration of Perya
Chromatiká Paichnídia in teaching Grade 10 Mathematics?
6. Is there a significant difference between those who have been taught with
gamification and traditional style?
III. PROPOSED INTERVENTION, INNOVATION AND STRATEGY

In an effort to enhance the learning experience and academic performance of

Grade 10 mathematics students, we propose the implementation of an innovative
intervention: Perya Chromatiká Paichnída, a gamified approach to mathematics
education. This intervention combines traditional classroom teaching with interactive and
immersive games designed to reinforce mathematical concepts. Recognizing the power
of experiential learning, Perya Chromatiká Paichnída aims to create a dynamic and
engaging environment where students can apply theoretical knowledge to real-world
scenarios, fostering a deeper understanding of mathematical principles.

The strategy involves the development of a comprehensive suite of digital and physical
games that align with the Grade 10 mathematics curriculum. These games will cover a
range of topics, from algebraic expressions to geometry, ensuring a holistic approach to
learning. By integrating these games into regular classroom activities, teachers can
transform mundane lessons into exciting challenges that motivate students to actively
participate in their own learning. Additionally, the intervention promotes collaborative
learning, as students work together to solve problems, fostering a sense of teamwork
and camaraderie.

To measure the effectiveness of Perya Chromatiká Paichnída, a robust

assessment system will be implemented, tracking both academic performance and the

development of critical thinking skills. This data will be used to continually refine and

enhance the gaming experience, ensuring its alignment with educational objectives.

Furthermore, the result of this study will be utilized to determine if FAME Strategy can be

recommended as material to use in every science classroom.

The participants of this study are the Grade 10 students of Ramon National High

School for the School Year 2023-2024. A pilot testing of the gamification will be

employed and survey questionnaire will be used to obtain data to this study. The

researchers will use a Likert scale to measure the effectiveness of the Perya-

Chromatiká Paichnídia in the teaching-learning process. To determine the level

of acceptability of the students acceptable, slightly acceptable, neutral, slightly

unacceptable, unacceptablw would be use wherein the highest would be 5 and

the lowest is 1. In the second part the level of satisfaction of students was use

where the highest is 4 and the lowest is 1 (4- very satisfied, 3- satisfied, 2-

dissatisfied and 1- very dissatisfied).

IV. ACTION RESEARCH METHOD

This research is a quantitative one. Specifically, a descriptive research

design was utilized. After using the color game to aid in teaching and learning, a
semi-structured interview was held with the target respondents to collect data.

a. Participants and/ or Sources of Data and Information

The research shall be conducted from February to May 2024 to the 150 of grade

10 students of Ramon National High School. Universal sampling or total enumeration

technique will be done during the pretest.

On the other hand, employing the random sampling technique will be done during

the implementation of the intervention. Thus, stratified random sampling is a method of

sampling that involves the division of a population into smaller sub-groups known as

strata. Henceforth, the researcher shall conduct pretest from the 60 Grade 10 pupils.

Then, cluster sampling will be done. All the student who obtained the passing score will

serve as the controlled group while those student who obtained the failing scores will

serve as the experimental group.
