The Sahara Desert
The Sahara isn’t the biggest desert in the world, but it’s the largest hot desert.
The deserts of Antarctica and the Arctic are bigger than the Sahara but they
are cold deserts. The Sahara is 9.4 million sq. km. and covers most of North
Africa, including Algeria, Egypt, and Morocco. The desert has mountains,
mountain ranges, and volcanoes. The highest peak is the volcano Emi Koussi.
That is 3,415 m. high. It doesn’t often rain in the Sahara, but it’s often very
windy and sometimes there are sandstorms in the northeast of the desert.
