a. Describe a Proportion;
b. Solve equations and problems involving proportion; and
c. Cite real life situations where in Proportion is used in daily life.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: PROPORTION
B. References: Mathematics 9 Quarter 3-Module 5
C. Material Used: Black Board, Chalk, Laptop, Tv
D. Subject Integration:
E. Value Focus: Critical thinking, attentiveness.

III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Prilimainary Activity Let us pray

Good morning Class

Checking of Attendance
A. Review Before we go to our new lesson let us
first recall some knowledge that you
will need to know.

Direction: Simplify the following

fraction.
𝟐𝟒 𝟖
1. 1.
𝟑𝟗 𝟏𝟑

𝟏𝟖 𝟔
2. 2.
𝟓𝟕 𝟏𝟗

𝟒 𝟐
3. 3.
𝟑𝟖 𝟏𝟗

𝟑𝟑
4. 𝟏𝟏
𝟗𝟑 4.
𝟑𝟏
𝟏𝟏
5. 𝟏
𝟏𝟐𝟏 5.
𝟏𝟏
B. Motivation Now lets play a game

Direction: Shout Vinci if you think that

the two fraction is equal and shout
Reyster if you think that the two
fraction is not equal.

Okay let’s start

𝟏𝟏 𝟏 [Link]
1. =𝟑
𝟑𝟑

𝟏 𝟓 2. Reyster
2. = 𝟏𝟎
𝟒

𝟓 𝟒
3. =𝟖 3. Vinci
𝟏𝟎

𝟒 𝟒𝟎
4. = 𝟔𝟎 4. Vinci
𝟔

𝟕 𝟖 5. Reyster
5. = 𝟑𝟐
𝟐𝟏

Guide Question:
[Link] do you find the activity?
(Students answer may vary)
2. How did you know if the fraction is
Buy simplying the two
equal or not?
fraction to check if they are
equal or not.
C. Activity Now for your Activity you will work as a
pair and answer the given question
Express the following ratios:

1.) 1 m to 20 cm Solution: 1 m = 100 cm

𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝟓
= 𝟏 𝒐𝒓 𝟓: 𝟏
𝟐𝟎

2.) 5 days to 2 weeks Solution: 2 weeks = 14 days

𝟓
𝒐𝒓 𝟓: 𝟏𝟒
𝟏𝟒

D. Discussion And Now let’s discuss what is ratio The class will listen
attentively
Ratio refers to the comparison of two
quantities of the same kind. It is a
number that expresses one quantity as
a fraction of the other hand. It can be
written with the use of colon “:” such
as a:b or can also written in fraction as
𝒂
.
𝒃

Proportion is an equation or
statement that shows that two
ratios are equal. That is, if the ratio
a:b is equal to the ratio of c:d, then
a,b,c and d are said to be in
Proportion.

𝒂 𝒄
= ; 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒃 ≠ 𝟎 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒅 ≠ 𝟎
𝒃 𝒅
Or
a:b=c:d where b≠0 and d≠0

Example no 1
Show that 7:21 = 12:36 is a proportion
Solution:
To show that the 7:21=12:36 is a
proportion , let’s express it in fraction
form.

𝟕 𝟏𝟐
=
𝟐𝟏 𝟑𝟔
Then let’s simplify each fraction it will
become

𝟏 𝟏
=𝟑
𝟑

Because the two fraction is equal

therefore it is proportional.

Example no 2
Solve for the value of x in the
proportion
𝒙+𝟏 𝟑
=𝟓
𝟓

First let’s the cross multiplication

5(𝑥 + 1) = (3)(5)
5𝑥 + 5 = 15
5𝑥 = 15 − 5
5𝑥 = 10
5𝑥 10
=
5 5
𝑥=2

Example no 3
Find the fourth term in a proportion if
the first three terms are 12, 17, 36

Solution:
Let x be the fourth term of the
𝟏𝟐 𝟑𝟔
proportion. So, = Solve for x
𝟏𝟕 𝒙

Let’s cross multiply

12(𝑥) = 36(17)
12𝑥 = 612
12𝑥
= 612/12
12
𝑥 = 51
Example no 4
The amount of medication that should
be administered to children is based on
the ratio of the child’s weight to that of
an average adult. The average adult’s
weight of 70 kg is often used. If an
adult dose of medication is 20
milligrams, how much should a 14
kilogram child take for his/her
medication.
adult ′ s weight
=
adult ′ s dose of medication

child′ s weght
child dose of medication

70𝑘𝑔 14𝑘𝑔
=
20𝑚𝑔 𝑥𝑚𝑔
70𝑥 = 280
70𝑥 280
=
70 70
𝑥 = 4𝑚𝑔

Analysis Wrap Up
[Link] do you define proportion 1. is an equation or
statement that shows that
two ratios are equal.

2. How do you define ratio? 2. refers to the comparison

of two quantities of the
same kind.

3. The two ratios are proportion if the [Link]

ratios are?

4. What is the formula for Proportion 4. Product of the Means is

equal to the Product of the
Extremes
Generalization Ratio refers to the comparison of two

Evaluation: Answer the given problem below.

1. Mang Kepweng prepared 6 kilograms of sweet corn after working 8 hours .How many sweet corn did
Mang Kepweng prepare if he worked for 9 hours?

2. Pedro bought 8 postcards during 4 days of vacation . How many days will pedro have to spend on
vacation before he will bought a total of 10 postcards?
