6. Reading Comprehension
Animals and Their Special Traits
The hippopotamus is one of the biggest and heaviest animals in Africa. It can weigh more than
3,000 kilograms, so it is much heavier than a gorilla. Even though hippos look lazy when resting in
rivers, they can move very fast and are dangerous if they feel scared. Gorillas are very strong and
smart animals. They live in groups called troops. Gorillas are friendlier than hippos and often show
love and care for their families. But they can be more protective than any other animal if there is
danger.
Among insects, butterflies are the most colorful. They start as caterpillars, which are small and
slow. As they grow, they change into beautiful butterflies that can fly. Caterpillars are slower and
less active than bees. Bees are the busiest insects. They fly quickly from flower to flower to collect
pollen and make honey.
Pandas are loved for their black-and-white fur. Compared to gorillas and hippos, pandas are
smaller and much less aggressive. Pandas spend a lot of time eating bamboo and are very
peaceful. While a panda is cuter and friendlier than a hippo, it is not as strong as a gorilla.
Butterflies are the lightest and most delicate animals here, but they are also very fragile.
Each animal has its own special traits. The hippopotamus is the heaviest, the gorilla is the
strongest, the panda is the friendliest, and the butterfly is the most colorful. The bee is the hardest
worker, while the caterpillar slowly changes into something amazing.
True/False Exercise
Read each statement and write True or False.

3. Caterpillars are faster than bees.
