Practical Guide to Balancing the Seven Chakras

Muladhara (Root Chakra)

Location: Base of the spine (pelvic floor/perineum).

Element & Emotion: Earth element; supports grounding, survival and a sense of safety.

Yogic Balance: Practice grounding poses like Mountain (Tadasana), Tree (Vrikshasana) or Garland Pose (Malasana); use deep belly breathing
(e.g. Dirga Pranayama) while visualizing red energy at the base.

Astrology Remedies: Associated with Saturn. Chant the Saturn mantra (e.g. *“Om Sham Shanaye Namah”*) and wear grounding gems like Blue
Sapphire or Lapis Lazuli. (A ritual: chant on Saturday and walk barefoot on earth.)

Tip: Each morning, visualize red light at your root or do a brief seated meditation focusing on stability and gratitude.

Svadhisthana (Sacral Chakra)

Location: Lower abdomen, about two inches below the navel.

Element & Emotion: Water element; governs creativity, passion, pleasure and joy.
Yogic Balance: Do hip-opening poses like Butterfly (Baddha Konasana), Pigeon or Cobra; practice smooth pelvic (hip) circles and flowing
breaths to encourage fluid energy.

Astrology Remedies: Ruled by Jupiter. Recite Jupiter’s mantra *“Om Brim Brihaspataye Namah”* and wear Jupiter stones (yellow sapphire,
citrine, or topaz). (Tip: bathe with orange light or flowers, or engage in creative/artistic rituals on Thursday.)

Tip: Include a daily creative activity (dancing, art or water-based exercise) and drink plenty of water to honor this chakra’s flow.

Manipura (Solar Plexus Chakra)

Location: Upper abdomen, around the navel area.

Element & Emotion: Fire element; supports personal power, confidence and willpower.

Yogic Balance: Strengthen the core with poses like Boat Pose (Navasana), Plank and Warrior I; try twists (Revolved Chair) and invigorating
breathing (Kapalabhati or Agni Sara) to stoke inner fire.

Astrology Remedies: Ruled by Mars. Use Mars mantra *“Om Kum Kujaya Namah”* and wear energizing gems like Red Coral or Carnelian.
(Perform sun salutations facing the rising sun; chant on Tuesdays.)

Tip: Set a daily affirmation or intention to boost confidence. Start mornings with Sun Salutations to energize your inner fire.

Anahata (Heart Chakra)

Location: Center of the chest (near the heart).

Element & Emotion: Air element; embodies love, compassion, kindness and emotional balance.

Yogic Balance: Open the heart with backbends (Camel, Cobra, Bridge poses) and chest-opening stretches; practice loving-kindness meditation
(sending compassion to self and others).

Astrology Remedies: Ruled by Venus. Chant “Om Shum Shukraya Namah” for Venus and use heart-connected gems like Diamond or Rose
Quartz. (Perform acts of love/charity and wear green or pink colors. Chant on Fridays.)

Tip: Keep a gratitude journal or do kindness meditations daily. Wear or decorate with green/rose colors to remind you of love and harmony.
Vishuddha (Throat Chakra)

Location: Throat area.

Element & Emotion: Ether/Space element; governs communication, self-expression and truthfulness.

Yogic Balance: Practice neck and shoulder stretches, Shoulder Stand or Fish Pose (Matsyasana) to open the throat. Use Jalandhara Bandha
(chin lock) in pranayama; chant or sing (vocalizing harmonizes this center).

Astrology Remedies: Ruled by Mercury. Use Mercury’s mantra *“Om Bum Budhaya Namah”* and wear gems like Emerald. (Speak positive truths
daily. Chant on Wednesday and stay hydrated for clear communication.)
Tip: Practice daily journaling or singing. Consciously speak truthfully and drink soothing herbal tea to gently balance the throat.

Ajna (Third Eye Chakra)

Location: Between the eyebrows, in the forehead.

Element & Emotion: All-pervading light (intuition); linked to insight, intuition and inner wisdom.

Yogic Balance: Rest in meditative poses like Child’s Pose or Easy Pose, focusing awareness on the “third eye.” Practice alternate-nostril
breathing (Nadi Shodhana) to balance energies.
Astrology Remedies: Often associated with the Moon (and Sun). Chant “Om Som Somaya Namah” for Moon energy (and/or “Om Sum Suryaya
Namah” for Sun). Wear calming gems like Pearl or Amethyst. (Meditate on the moonlight; chant in quiet on Monday.)

Tip: Begin a daily meditation at dawn or dusk focusing on inner vision. Limit screen use before bedtime to enhance dream recall and intuitive
awareness.

Sahasrara (Crown Chakra)

Location: Top of the head.

Element & Emotion: Transcendent/cosmic; embodies spiritual connection, enlightenment and unity.

Yogic Balance: Emphasize stillness and deep meditation (Lotus pose or any comfortable seated posture). Gentle headstand (supported) can
stimulate circulation. Chant “Om” or silent mantras to connect with pure awareness.

Astrology Remedies: No single ruling planet (often linked with Sun’s energy). Chant *“Om Sum Suryaya Namah”* to honor the Sun’s light; wear
clear or violet stones (like Amethyst) if desired. (Practice full-silk meditation and connect with the divine. Chant on Sunday.)

Tip: Spend time in nature or silence each day. Visualize a violet/white light at the crown and practice deep breathing to foster a sense of
universal oneness.

Sources: Classical yogic texts and expert sources describe each chakra’s qualities. Associations with elements, emotions and planetary
remedies are drawn from Ayurvedic/astro
logical tradition. Each suggestion above is based on traditional chakra balancing practices.
