Topic: Nagaland Folk
Introduction
Nagaland, located in the north-eastern part of India, is a land of rich cultural heritage and
traditions. It is home to several tribes, each with its own customs, language, dress, dance,
music, and especially — folk stories. The folk culture of Nagaland is preserved through oral
storytelling, songs, dances, and festivals. This project aims to explore the beauty of
Nagaland's folk traditions while enhancing our English language skills through storytelling,
creative writing, and art.
Folk Tales of Nagaland
Folk tales in Nagaland are often about animals, spirits, nature, bravery, and wisdom. These
stories are passed down from generation to generation and teach moral values.
Example Folk Tale: “The Talking Tree”
Once upon a time, in a village in Nagaland, there was a sacred tree that could speak. It
warned the villagers of danger and helped them during droughts. One day, a greedy man
tried to cut it down to sell its wood. The tree cried out, and the village stopped the man.
From that day on, the tree became a symbol of wisdom and protection for all.
Message: This story teaches us to respect nature and listen to the wisdom of our elders.
Folk Songs and Music
Nagaland folk songs are usually sung during festivals and community gatherings. They are
often accompanied by traditional instruments like log drums and bamboo flutes. The lyrics
are based on love, war, bravery, harvest, and nature.
