(When Emma is speaking, a member of her audience argues with her that
fighting for women is the same as man hating.)
Member Ma im, may I ask you a question ?
Emma Yes, sure.
Member You say that feminism means equality.
Emma Yes.
Member But I believe it means man-hating, although you say, it is not
so.
Emma Yes, I say this. May I know your name please ?
Member Phillips.
Emma Yes Mr. Phillp. Thank you for telling your name. So how can
you say, I hate men because I am a feminist.
Member You can see in most of the feminist speeches, they sould like
that. There is a kind of enemity, jealousy and prejudice against
men.
Emma May I know how ?
Member You see, when any woman gives speech as feminist. They use
sharp views against men. They say, "men have never allowed
us to do so....Theyhave used us always. They think that we
are material. This is a patriarchal world they just dominate
andsuppress women and much more. Isn't this a hatred
against men.
Emma Is it wrong in any way ?
Member The way of speaking out is wrong.
Emma When I say that I should get equal pay as a man Where is the
hatred against him.
Member It is usually said, "Why men get more pay It is always said
or spoken out in an aggressivemanner Ma'm. Women say
that it is a patriarchal society where all over only men
dominate. When you have reached at all over only men

you still feel being dominated by the society, family or in the

Emma Not all women do so. We, the women believe in hard-work

Member The main thing is opportunity. That men don't get So easily
as women get. When there is a matter of promotion or pay
raise, members often become feminist. They believe, "We
should give an opportunity to that lady. "And that why
happens because the lady is beautiful.
Emma Oh, My god. Do you think anything of such sort happens. It
may be a case at some places. But not every where. Do you
think a lady can be a President of a country, because she is
beautiful. And if could have happened, then I don't think that
men could never reach high an any position because of
beautiful and charning ladies around the world.
Member I am not saying so. I believe women always take advantage.
Emma Mr. Phillip, neither we never take any advantage nor we hate
men.
Member All women hate man in the form of feminism.
Emma I again say, feminism does not mean hatred against men.
Women always spread love, not hatred. We want equality.
We want rights on our body, on our decisions like you. I want
men and women to be a part of this campaign. Its He for Her.

They are forced to choose certain careeras nursing, teaching etc.
Now we come to gender equality. Gender equality is the process of being fair
to women and men. To ensure fairness, strategiesand measures must often

prevent women and men from otherwise operating on a level playing field.
Equity
leads to equality. Where gender inequality exists, it is generally women who

Interviewee 1. Manju
Have you heard the word 'feminism'?
Manju Yes,many times.
What is 'feminism' in your opinion ?
Manju I believe it is being equal. I mean when men and women
are equal in every sphere as education, politics, society,
economically.
But when we talk about feminism, why people become
uncomfortable ?
Manju (laughing) : Yesoften. There is a certain perception that feminists are
very aggressive in nature. It is thought that feminists
bash men, and dream a world where there are no men.
Me (laughing) You are true in a way. But is it true ?
Manju No, not at all,I have always favoured feminism. But I
don't hate men. I have friends who are boys. I believe
feminism is a way to express ourselves as women. If a
man can take his own decisions,why can't a girl ? If I

restriction that I am a girl and I can't take it up as a career.

But why did they do so ?
Deepak They were holding some issue regarding men and women
equality in pay in an office.
So you are scared of feminism ?
Deepak Yes [Link] is man-hating.
How?
Deepak It is because we can hear public speeches, writings of
authors, movementsand so on. All women are against
men. Feministword means a lot hatred. It has increased
much hatred.
Does this word make you uncomfortable ?
Deepak Not uncomfortablebut really feel sad. It must be a

there is equality between men and women. Also feminists

power but to get rights equal to men.

I hope you are fine. I am fine here. How are Mom and Papa ? I am doing well in

Last year, a campaign began He for She in India and around the VVorld.
It is a
feminist movement. In our college also, this movement has begun. Do you know
what isfeminism ?
At its core, feminism is the belief in full social, economic and political equality
for women. It is a social and political movement It is about changing the way that
people see male and female rights (mainly females) and campaigns for equal ones.
Somebody who follows feminism is called a feminist.
The world is at a turing point. Peopleeverywhereunderstandand support
the idea of gender equality. They know its not just a women's issue, it's human
rights issue. He for She is an invitation for men and people of all genders to stand
