Now, based on what we did what do you think
our lesson for today? 1, 2 papayas ma’am!
Yes, very good!
c. Presentation of lesson subtraction ma’am!
Today we will discuss about,
subtraction as taking away.
d. Discussion
What is subtraction?
Subtraction is removing or taking away one
number from another.
We subtract when we remove objects from a
group.
We do subtraction to know how many objects
are left when we take away some objects from
a set of objects.
In subtraction, we use - and = sign.
the minus sign (-) tell us to subtract a number
to another number.
The equal sign (=) tells us the number of
objects left.
Example: Mica has 5 roses from her garden.
She gave 2 roses to her friend Joy.
How many flowers were left to Mica?
5-2=
Always remember we use - and = sign
in subtraction.
What does 5 represent?
What does 2 represent?
What does 3 represent?
5 -2= 3
Minuend subtrahend difference
We can read this as 5 minus 2 is equals to 3.
5 the number of objects is the
minuend.
2 the number of objects taken away, is
the subtrahend.
3 the number of objects left, is the
difference.
Understand?
Another example:
Teacher Cherry bought 10 mangoes,
she gave 4 mangoes to her friend.
How many mangoes were left?
To subtract, lets write first the given numbers.
10 4
Then, write the - and = sign.
10 - 4 =
And then let’s solve.
What is the correct answer?
10 – 4 = 6
Yes correct! And how we read this?
Can you read the subtraction sentence?
Yes, very good children! You are so very
intelligent! you can easily understand your
lesson. ten minus four is equal to six.
Because of that give yourself a very good
clap!
e. Application
Since you already understand our lesson, let’s
have a group activity.
I will group you into 3 groups.
I’m very, very good! 2x
Heres your rubrics. I’m very good! 2x
I’m very, very good!
Teamwork – 10 %
Timeliness – 10%
Neatness – 5 %
Discipline – 5 %
______
30 %
Write the correct answer for each story.
Group #1: Minuends of 4
Mon has 4 apples; he gave 1 apple to Ben.
How many apples left?
Cross out the object to help find the answer.
4-1=_____
Group #2: Minuends of 6
Father picked 6 mangoes. He gave 2
mangoes to the Ben. How many mangoes
were left?
Color the remaining mangoes.
Group #3: Minuends of 8
Mico had 8 balls. He gave 3 balls to John.
How many balls were left? Draw it.
Group #4: Minuends of 10
Fill in the blanks according to the picture.
Complete the story by filling the blanks with
correct minuends and subtrahend.
Ken harvested
______ oranges.
He gave away
______ oranges.
I will give you 5 minutes to answer your
activity. Go to your group and cooperate.
Are you ready children?
Your time start’s now!
Time is up!
Okay, let’s check your activities, pass your
works.
Very good children!
You are so very intelligent!
All your answer is correct. Yes ma’am?
You really understand your lesson!
Because of that give yourself a very good clap
again!
Always remember children, it is important to
know how to subtract. Because it can help us
in our everyday life.
Be happy to share children. And always
remember it is better to give than to receive.
Understand?
I’m very, very good! 2x
f. Generalization I’m very good! 2x
I’m very, very good!
And now, I prepared some questions here.
I will ask you questions about our lesson, and
you need to answer it correctly.
Understand children?
1. What is subtraction?
2. What signs did we used in doing
subtraction?
3. What is minuend?
4. What is subtrahend?
5. What is difference?
Very good children!
Yes ma’am!
IV. Evaluation
For your last activity. Subtraction is removing or taking away.
Count the fruits. Write the total numbers in the We use – and = sign.
boxes and find the difference.
Number of objects.
Number of objects taken away.
Number of objects left.
I will give you 5 minutes to answer your
activity.
You may now start answering.
Time is up!
Please pass your papers and I will check that
later.
V. Assignment
For your homework, Copy and answer this.
Count the circles. Write the total. Then cross
out circles according to the equation, and write
the difference.
Please study your lessons at home.
