General Guidelines

1. Preparation of the Report


The following should be adhered to while preparing the report:
• Typing should be done on one side of the A-4 size paper.
• The left side margin should be 1.75 inches, the right, top and bottom margin should be 1
inch each.
• Font size: Chapter heading: 18; Sub-heading: 14 and text of the running matter: 12.
• Fonts to be used as Times New Roman.
• The text of the project should have 1.5-line spacing; quotations and foot notes should
ben in single-line space.
• Chapter heading should be capitalized and should be kept at the center.
• Tables, graphs and diagrams should have respective number, captions and source.
• The report should have minimum 80 Pages excluding front page, contents, certificates
and references.
• All pages in the main text should carry the Arabic numerals placed on the bottom at the
center.
• The Title page, Acknowledgement, Table of contents etc. should be numbered in lower
case Roman numerals.
• The numbering of chapters, divisions and sub-divisions should be done, using Arabic
numerals only. For example, sub-division 2 under division 4 of chapter 3 should be
numbered as 3.4.2.
• Table and Figures appearing in the main text should have appropriate numbers and
captions.
• The third table in Chapter Two, the number of Table should be assigned as 2.3. Tables
and F i g u r e s should appear at the center.
• Endnotes should be numbered consecutively within each chapter or throughout the
entire report. Citations on the main text should carry the author(s) name with year, say
for example, Sharma (2011) or (Sharma, 2011) as the case requires. The full reference
for the citation should appear in the Bibliography.

2. Submission of Copies
Two hardbound copies of dissertation along with soft copy (pdf file) have to be submitted.
Spiral binding, plastic comb binding will not be accepted.

3. Evaluation and Weightage of Dissertation


The dissertation research report evaluation will be continuous, and the students need to
submit and present their progress report in front of Research evaluation committee on the
notified date from examination department.

CHAPTER 1: Introduction
This chapter will include the problem under investigation, the purpose of the study, and
research questions to be investigated. Where applicable, the theoretical or conceptual
framework upon which the dissertation is based should also be introduced. The broad terms
used shall also be explained in this chapter.

Note: For Company dissertation, this chapter will also include the Profile of the
Organization(s)/Respondents. The following should also be included:

• Name of the company and its history


• Vision and Mission Statements
• Product profile
• Competitors
• Market share
• Milestones achieved / awards received
• Corporate Social Responsibility
• SWOT assessment
CHAPTER 2: Literature Review
It includes the recent and relevant existing research relating to the topic of study. Existing
research gap should be identified in this chapter. References must be properly cited in all
paragraphs using author/year format (APA format is to be used). All the citations must be
listed in references and vice-versa.

Rationale of the Study: The rationale of your research is the reason for conducting the study.
The rationale should answer the need for conducting the said research. Students should
clearly state the significance of study by identifying and mentioning the existing information
gap. It is a very important part of the research as it justifies the significance and novelty of the
study.
CHAPTER 3: Research Methodology
The research methodology should begin with the basic introduction to research. It describes
the following:
• Objectives: States the specific objectives related to the topic.
• Hypotheses: States the researcher’s expectations concerning the relationships between
the variables in the research problem.
• Research Design: Specifies the type of research design whether Exploratory,
descriptive, causal/explanatory, experimental or combination of two or more designs
and justify it.
• Sampling Design: Population, Specifies sampling frame, sampling unit, sampling size,
sampling technique.
• Data Collection: Specifies the sources of primary and/or secondary data. Indicates the
sampling procedures (if primary data) and the data collection methods such as survey,
questionnaire, and others.
• Tools for Analysis and Presentation: Indicates the most appropriate statistical tools
used in analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data.
• Limitations of the Study: States the limitations, mentioning what the study will not
cover by identifying the weaknesses and constraints which may affect the results of
the study.
CHAPTER 4: Data Analysis and Interpretation
Summarizes the data collected and the statistical results in sufficient detail to justify
conclusions.
• Every table and figure or graph should be followed by analysis and interpretation.
• All figures must be numbered consecutively with appropriate labels.
• All figures must be placed immediately after the page where a particular figure
number is mentioned. All figures must be well explained in the text and all figure
numbers must be mentioned properly in the text.
• Includes information about the obtained value of the test statistic.
• Evaluates/interprets the implications of the original hypothesis.
• Sequencing of the analysis must follow the specific objectives of the study.
• Mostly in the past tense; some are in the present tense.
CHAPTER 5: Findings and Conclusion
Mentions the findings in the same sequence as the data analysis and interpretation. It also
emphasizes any theoretical consequences of the results and compares results with the work of
others. It also includes the conclusion by summarizing major takeaways from the study.
References

References and citations should be completed in all respect to enable the reader to look up the
source material and give credit to the author(s) of the source material. All the references should
be cited in the body of the text and arranged in alphabetical order. Keep uniformity in the
references. All references should be in APA Format as shown below:
