Lab Installation Guide
for the course DA-100: Analyzing Data with Power BI
Step-1: Installation of
Power BI software

• Select the
appropriate version
from the list of
downloads available.
• Save the file into
system local drive.
• Go to location, where the file
was saved and double click
to start “Installation”
process. (usual process like
other software, no need to
change any option)
• Next → Yes →
Next → Next →
Next → Install
• Close dialog box using “X”.
• PowerBI Installation completed
successful.
Step-2: Installation of
Power BI Report
Builder

• Select the appropriate version from
the list of downloads available.
• Save the file into system local drive.
• Go to location, where the file was
saved and double click to start
“Installation” process. (usual
process like other software, no
need to change any option)
Next → Next → Install → Yes → Finish.
Step-3: Installation of
SQL Express
• Click the below link to download
SQL Express

• Save the file into system local
drive.
• Go to location, where the file
was saved and double click to
start “Installation” process.
(usual process like other
software, no need to change any
option)
• Yes → Basic →
Accept → Install
• Wait, it takes some time to complete the
installation process.
• Close the window using “Close” button in
the right bottom.
Step-4: Installation of
SQL Server
Management Studio
• Click the below link to download
SQL Server Management Studio
[Link]
• Save the file into system local
drive.
• Go to location, where the file was saved and double
click to start “Installation” process. (usual process like
other software, no need to change any option)
Install → Close.
Step-5: Download the
supporting files and
database
• Click the below link to download
supporting files
[Link]
DA-100-Analyzing-Data-with-Power-BI
• Code → Download ZIP
• Go to location, where the file was
saved and unzip folder.
• “[Link]” is the
database file using for our lab. It’s
available in folder ➔ (DA-100-
Analyzing-Data-with-Power-BI-
master\Allfiles\DA-100-
Allfiles\DatabaseBackup).
Step-6: Restore the
database
• Open the “SQL Server Management
Studio” from application list
• Don’t change anything on the opening
window, just check the Server name
should be “PC
Name\SQLEXPRESS”.(Note: Remember
this path of database, have to use the
same with Power BI)
• Click on “Connect” button to proceed.
• From the left panel of “SQL Server Management Studio”
→ go to Databases → System Databases → Right click →
Click on “Restore Database…”
• In new dialog box select the “Device” button and click on
… next to the text field.
• In new pop-up window → Add
• Again new pop-up window appear, locate the
database folder from the saved location using the list
available in the left panel of a dialog box
• After locating the folder, from right side
select the file (“[Link]”) in
the right panel
• Ok → Ok → Ok → Added successfully.
• Database “AdventureWorksDW2020”
restored successfully.
• Click → Ok.
Step-7: Creating
shortcut for Power BI
Report Builder
• Search “Power BI Report Builder”
using search option on Task bar
• Select → Open file location →
Right click → Send to → Desktop
(create shortcut).
Congratulations!
• Successfully completed the installation and restoration of database.
• Now, follow the lab manual to completed exercises.
• “PC Name\SQLEXPRESS” (Note: Remember this path of database,
have to use with Power BI).
