Elements of Art
1. Space – Can be positive (occupied) or negative (empty).
2. Line – A series of connected points .
Circular Line- abrupt change of direction
Horizontal Line- It suggest calmness.
3. Shape & Form – Shapes are two-dimensional (height & width). Forms are three-
dimensional (height, width, & depth).
4. Color – It is associated with the natural phenomenon in our environment. Can be warm
(red, yellow, orange) or cool (blue, green).
5. Value – It is considered a property of a color which pertains to its lightness or darkness
of a color.
6. Texture –It appeals to our sense of feel on things, it pertains to the surface of an art
pieces.
Principles of Art
1. Proportion – Size relationship between elements.
2. Harmony – Unity in an artwork.
3. Variety – Adding multiple, different elements to break the monotony of an artwork.
4. Movement – Creating an illusion of motion in a painting or design.
5. Rhythm – Repetition to create patterns and flow.
6. Balance – Equal distribution of elements.
7. Emphasis – Highlighting an element to draw attention.

What is a National Artist?
A National Artist is a Filipino who has made significant contributions to Philippine arts in
Music, Dance, Theater, Visual Arts, Literature, Film, and Architecture.
The Order of National Artist (Orden ng Gawad Pambansang Alagad ng Sining) was
established under Proclamation No. 1001 on April 27, 1972.
