SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
This chapter presented the summary, the conclusions inferred and
recommendation offered in this study.
SUMMARY
This study examined the effects of cellphone usage during classes among
senior high school students at Puro National High School. The findings revealed that
while mobile phones can serve as useful learning tools by providing quick access to
information, digital note-taking, and online learning, their misuse often leads to
distractions. Many students tend to use their cellphones for non-educational purposes
such as social media, gaming, and messaging during class, which negatively affects
their concentration, participation, and overall academic performance. Teachers also
reported difficulties in maintaining classroom discipline due to frequent mobile phone
distractions, leading to lower student engagement and non-compliance with school
rules. In some cases, excessive cellphone usage resulted in students becoming
disengaged from lessons, failing to complete their tasks, and exhibiting lower levels
of academic achievement.
Despite these challenges, the study also found that when used responsibly and
under clear guidelines, mobile phones can enhance the learning experience rather than
hinder it. Schools that have structured policies on cellphone use tend to have better
student discipline and academic outcomes. Teachers who incorporate mobile learning
applications effectively can harness technology as a tool to support student
engagement, creativity, and critical thinking. However, without proper supervision,
students are more likely to prioritize entertainment over learning, which highlights the
importance of responsible usage.
Based on these findings, the study concludes that cellphone usage in class has
both positive and negative effects. While mobile phones have the potential to support
education, their improper use significantly disrupts learning. A balanced approach,
where schools regulate cellphone use while integrating educational technology, is
necessary to maximize benefits while minimizing distractions. To address these
concerns, the study recommends implementing strict policies on cellphone use in
classrooms, integrating mobile learning applications in teaching, and raising
awareness among students about responsible cellphone usage. Teachers should be
trained on effective strategies to incorporate technology into their lessons without
compromising classroom discipline. Additionally, parental involvement is crucial in
monitoring and guiding students on proper mobile phone habits to ensure that their
academic performance is not negatively affected. Schools may also consider
designated cellphone-free zones or specific time slots for mobile usage to strike a
balance between accessibility and discipline.
Furthermore, this study highlights the need for continuous research on the
long-term impact of cellphone usage in educational settings. Future studies should
explore how different school policies influence student performance and classroom
behavior. Comparative research between institutions that enforce strict mobile phone
bans and those that integrate technology in learning can provide valuable insights into
the most effective strategies.
CONCLUSION
1. Demographic Profile of Students
The study found that students at Puro National High School come from diverse
backgrounds, with varying levels of access to technology. While some students use
mobile phones for academic purposes, others primarily use them for entertainment
and social interactions, influencing their learning behavior differently.
2. Effects of Using Mobile Phones in Class
The research revealed both positive and negative effects of cellphone use in the
classroom. On the positive side, mobile phones can serve as learning aids, providing
quick access to educational resources, enhancing note-taking, and enabling digital
collaboration. However, the negative effects include distractions, reduced attention
spans, and a decline in classroom participation due to excessive use of social media,
gaming, and messaging.
3. Negative Influence on Students’ Learning
The findings suggest that improper cellphone usage significantly impacts students’
academic performance. Many students struggle to focus on lessons, leading to lower
comprehension and engagement. Teachers also reported disciplinary challenges, as
students often fail to follow school rules regarding mobile phone use. While some
students benefit from mobile learning tools, the overall influence of unrestricted
cellphone use is more harmful than beneficial to classroom learning.
4. Need for Policy Implementation
To address the challenges posed by cellphone use in class, the study recommends
implementing clear and enforceable policies on mobile phone usage. Schools should
develop structured guidelines that balance the benefits of technology with the need to
minimize distractions.
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Personalized Learning Approaches – Schools should implement teaching
strategies that accommodate students from different technological backgrounds. This
includes providing alternative learning resources for those with limited access to
mobile devices.

on when and how mobile phones can be used in class, ensuring they are primarily
used for educational purposes rather than personal entertainment.

effectiveness of cellphone policies through periodic reviews and make necessary
adjustments to ensure a balanced approach to technology use.
4. Consistent Enforcement of Rules – Teachers and administrators must uniformly
enforce cellphone policies to prevent inconsistencies that could lead to student non-
compliance.
