DEFINITION
A credit system is a systematic way of
describing an educational program by
attaching credits to its component .The
definition of credits in higher education
systems may be based on different
parameters , such as student workload ,
learning outcomes and contact hours.
NEEDS FOR CREDIT SYSTEM IN INDIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM
The university grants commission (UGC ) has initiated
several measure to bring equity ,efficiency and excellence
in the higher education system of the country.
The important measures taken to enhance academic
standards and quality in higher education include
innovation and improvements in curriculum , teaching
learning process ,examination and evaluation system ,
besides goverance and other matters.
Thecredit based semester system provides flexibility in
desiging curriculum and assigning credit based on the
course content and hours of teaching.
ADVANTAGES OF CREDIT SYSTEM
One advantages of the credit system is the credit
system is that a student can earn credits at her
own.
The credit system also facilitates flexibility.
If, in a semester , a student falls ill or cannot cope
with the academic load, he /she can decide to
study a fewer number of a course , earning fewer
credits.
He / she can compensate for the so-called loss in
the next semester, or put in an extra semester of
work to complete a course.
The credit system allows the recognition of
learning , wherever it is achieved.
CONCLUSIONS
Transcripts provide a detailed record of courses taken ,Grades received ,and credits earned
,While The Credit System assigns numerical values to these credits to represent the
workload and learning outcomes of a courses. This system allows for tracking student
progress ,assessing course equivalency ,and facilitates the transfer of credits between
institutions.

ABSTRACT
Student records, and specifically academic transcripts, are the traditional record of a student's completed coursework and
their earned credential at an educational institution. Transcripts can serve as proof and a signal to potential employers
and other educational institutions that a student has engaged in certain learning activities and obtained knowledge in
given areas. Early in 2021, staff members from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the U.S. Department of
Education and the regional compacts -- the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC), the New England Board of
Higher Education (NEBHE), and the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) -- met to discuss
students' access to their records as a matter of student success. Three concerns were identified: student access to
transcripts when there are financial or administrative holds placed on student accounts at institutions; access to student
records when an institution closes; and the future of student records access.
Publication Type: Reports – Descriptive
CONCLUSION-:This paper provides an overview of student records issues, from an accreditor and regional compacts
perspective. It includes recent legislative and policy actions at the federal and state levels as well as practitioner solutions
and tools for institutions created by regional compacts, institutions, and other organizations. Resources are provided for
those working at the institutional level as well as at the state or federal policy level to help students succeed.
