PREFACE:
This report is an outcome of the two-months internship
programme conducted by Bharath institute of law,
Bharath university for the student of 8 th Semester.
Internship was done at HIGH COURT, MADRAS under
Adv. MR. D. DANIEL. The main constituents of the
report are on cases observed at the trail courts during
the internship. I have tried my best to do justice with my
activities
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Adv. Mr.
[Link], for providing their invaluable guidance,
comments, and suggestions throughout the course of
the project. I would like him for constantly motivating
me to work harder.
I am also thankful to all other advocates, friends and all
other persons who helped me out in this training either
directly or indirectly to complete it successfully.
DAILY INTERNSHIP DUTIES:
During my first week of internship, I was assigned to get
familiar with legal terms and court proceedings and was
assigned to read case files, how to maintain files and
records.
I was assigned to observe proceedings and cross-
examinations and final arguments
Reading any suggested law related materials for my
own benefits
Helping clients if possible and if I am able to, since I
don’t know much about the field yet
Research on judgements that are related to the facts of
the case.
THINGS LEARNT IN THE COURT:
Before this internship I did not have practical knowledge
about the court procedures. I learnt a lot about the court and
how things work in it during my internship. High Court
attends cases whose judgement in other courts seems unfair
to the petitioner. Writ petitions and public interest litigation
are sum of all the cases that can be filed directly in the High
Court. I attend the hearings of a few cases where I witnessed
how lawyers are supposed to represent a cases, cross
examined, how cases are called (case calling), how to read
the court diary etc., and most importantly I learnt court hall
manners. I also learnt a lot of abbreviations and few legal
terms as well.
