(Week Covered and Date)

1
I. INTRODUCTION
In this module, we will tackle about special characteristics of unit circle such as standard position,
quadrantal angles, coterminal angles and special angles.

II. LESSONS AND COVERAGE

Lesson 1 – Special Characteristics of Unit Circle

Objectives/Competencies (MELC)
In these lessons, you will learn to:
Lesson 1 • illustrate angles in standard position and coterminal angles

III. PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION

LESSON 1 Special Characteristics of Unit

Circle
What to KNOW
Activity 1: In or Out!
Description: This activity will help you understand angles in standard position.
Direction: Write IN if the given figure is in standard position, otherwise OUT. And explain why. Make sure
that you got at least 3 points before proceeding to the next activity.

1. 2. 3.

4. 5. 6.

What to PROCESS
Since you already know that an angle is in standard position if and only if its vertex is in the origin,
and its initial side extends along the positive x-axis, you can now proceed to the next activity.
QUADRANTAL ANGLE – is an angle in standard position where its terminal side lies on one of the
coordinate axes.

Activity 2: Quadrantal Angles!

Description: This activity will help you understand the meaning of Quadrantal angles.
Direction: A. Write QA if the given angle measure is Quadrantal angle, otherwise NOT. Make sure that you
got at least 6 points before proceeding to the next activity.

1. 89.9° 5𝜋
6. 𝑟𝑎𝑑
4
2. 𝜋 𝑟𝑎𝑑 6𝜋
2𝜋 7. − 4 𝑟𝑎𝑑
3. − 3 𝑟𝑎𝑑
8. 380°
4. 480° 𝜋
9. 6 𝑟𝑎𝑑
5. −540°
10. What technique, process, or formula did you use in
identifying if the given angle measure is quadrantal angle
or not?
2
What to UNDERSTAND
Now that you can already identify Quadrantal angles, you can now proceed to the next activity.

COTERMINAL ANGLES- are angles that have different measures but have the same terminal side.

Example: Give two coterminal angles of 90°.

90°, −270°, and 540° are coterminal angles because they all have the same terminal side that lies on
the positive y-axis. No matter how may turns you do (clockwise/counterclockwise) to make different angle
measures as long as the terminal side lies on the positive y-axis all of them will be co-terminal with 90°.

Activity 3: Find Me in Many Ways!

Description: In this activity you will find coterminal angles given an angle measure.
Direction: Give 5 coterminal angles for the given angle measures. Write your answers in your activity
notebook. Make sure that you got at least 6 points before proceeding to the next activity.

1. 75°
𝜋
2. − 𝑟𝑎𝑑
6
3. −335°
11𝜋
4. 𝑟𝑎𝑑
12
5. What technique, process, or formula did you use finding the coterminal angles of each angle measure?

What to TRANSFER
Provide learners opportunities to apply their understanding on unit circles – activities that reflect meaningful
and relevant concepts that will prepare them on the next module.

Special angles are important in the study of trigonometry because of their special characteristics,
which you will learn in the next module.

Activity 4: Performance Task No. 1

Description: In this activity you will know about special angles.
Directions: Find the 16 special angles (in degree measures and radian measures) in a unit circle. Write
𝜋
your answers in a 1 whole sheet of pad paper. The first special angle is 30° or 𝑟𝑎𝑑.
6

3
IV. EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT

Write your answers in a one whole sheet of pad paper. Don’t forget to write your NAME, GRADE &
SECTION and the DATE you’ve finished answering the evaluation. Passing score is 6 points.
