These rules help maintain a safe and productive learning environment while conducting experiments!
Materials (per group):
Three clear plastic cups
Water (at room temperature)
Sugar cubes (3)
Granulated sugar (about 1 teaspoon)
Spoon or stirring rod
Stopwatch or timer
Experiment 1: Comparing Sugar Cube and Granulated Sugar
1. Fill two plastic cups with the same amount of water (about half a cup).
2. Place one sugar cube in the first cup. Start the timer. Observe how long it takes for the sugar cube
to completely disappear. Record the time in the results table. Do not stir this cup.
3. Place the granulated sugar in the second cup. Start the timer. Observe how long it takes for the
granulated sugar to completely disappear. Record the time in the results table. Do not stir this
cup.
Experiment 2: The Effect of Stirring
1. Fill a clean plastic cup with the same amount of water as before (about half a cup).
2. Place one sugar cube in this cup. Start the timer.
3. Stir the water gently and continuously with the spoon until the sugar cube completely disappears.
Record the time in the results table.

happened?
