PERSONAL STATEMENT
From childhood, I have had a natural predilection towards Electronics. My early
exposure to Power Electronics came via my father’s company, ---------------,
which deals with Thyristor Power Controllers. While watching my father at work
I found it intriguing how the components were assembled together to form a
Thyristor. The electrical circuits, PCB designing, all held a great fascination for
me.
To explore the field further, I chose Electronics as one of my four majors at the
Pre-University level and the Electrical and Electronics branch of Engineering for
my Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) degree.
At the Pre-University level, I learnt several concepts in Electronics like Color
Coding of Resistors, Ohm’s Law, diodes, transistors and Kirchhoff’s Circuit
Laws.
In Engineering, I had several project-based courses. Using a software called
“MULTISIM”, I worked on Half and Full Wave Rectifiers using Operational
Amplifiers. “Power Electronics” and “Advanced Power Electronics” were two
core subjects in the penultimate year which helped me master concepts like
MOSFET, IGBT and SCR.
My academic performance and the type of project work I had undertaken, earned
me two internships in the year 2014-15.
My first internship was at ----------------, Bangalore, where I learnt the basics of
manufacturing an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and how to test the UPS
for its battery-charging capacity.
I also attended a workshop on “Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designing” at -------
---------, where I learnt the basic design, fabrication and testing of a double
coating PCB.
My second internship was at ----------------. The hands-on experience that I
gained there taught me how single phase and three phase Thyristor Power
Controllers are designed and manufactured.
I worked on my final year project titled “Digitization of Thyristor-Based AC
Power Controller”, at ----------------. My aim was to convert a part of the existing
Analog Control into Digital Control and through independent research and hard
work I succeeded. For my venture, I was awarded a perfect 10 Grade Point
Average.
Though academics has always been my top priority, I have also participated in
extracurricular activities. I played for my school cricket team and received the
Best Player award for the year 2007-08. At PES Institute of Technology, where I
did my B.E, I was part of the college football team for three years. Sports taught
me valuable lessons like hard work, discipline and teamwork which moulded me
into a better team player.
I also took part in outreach activities. In high school, I joined the National Cadet
Corps (NCC) Air Wing. I teach less privileged school children basic English at
an NGO called “U&I”. It has been a very enriching and rewarding experience. It
has sensitized me to the needs of society.
In future I want to be an entrepreneur and expand my father’s business in the field
of Power Electronics. I learnt a lot during my B.E course and my internships, but
one needs greater technical know-how to cope with cutting-edge technology.
Being an entrepreneur in a technical field is far more challenging than I had
anticipated. In order to keep abreast of new trends, it is imperative I take up higher
studies to broaden the extent of my knowledge of Power Electronics.
I am interested in the following courses offered by the University of Colorado in
its extensive curriculum: “Introduction to Power Electronics”, “Modeling and
Control of Power Electronics Systems”, “Adjustable Speed AC Drives” and
“Project Laboratory in Power Electronics”. The “Colorado Power Electronics
Center”, with its state-of-the-art facilities, will help meet my needs and enrich me
with exactly the knowledge that I am seeking. I am inspired by the research
expertise of the faculty of the Department of Electrical, Computer and Energy
Engineering, especially Dr. Regan A Zane. His research in the field of AC-DC,
DC-DC and DC-AC Power Convertors is in line with my field of interest and I
would consider it a privilege to be tutored by him.
In order to prepare myself for the intensive work involved in a Master’s program
and make myself technically competent, I am going to enroll for the “Power
Electronics Specialization” course on “Coursera”, offered by your University.
This course will strengthen my technical base and my grounding in Power
Electronics, which will better qualify me for the Master’s course and enable me
to meet the demands of the same.
I have set my sights on equipping myself with knowledge to be able to take on
the technical world. Meticulousness, eye for detail, a strong sense of
commitment and capacity for sustained effort are my strengths which will
enable me to undergo a rigorous master’s course.
I will work not only towards my personal growth but also towards the growth of
your institution. I am confident that with the strong foundation that has been
laid throughout my academic career, my final year B.E project, the internships
that I went through and my one-year work experience will help me meet every
requirement of the course.

PERSONAL STATEMENT
An experience in my early youth left a deep impact on me. I was on a family trip
when the service providers Vodafone acquired the shares of Hutchisson Essar and
effected a successful acquisition. The marketing strategies employed by
Vodafone, including their breaking of advertising stereotypes, were remarkable.
I was enraptured!!!
That was my first insight into the world of marketing, which soon became a
passion. Watching ads became a hobby. Brands, logos, taglines, target audience,
impact factor, ad campaigns, stories behind brands, became part of my waking
consciousness. What had started as a casual interest became an absorbing
preoccupation. I began to look for more serious, academic and critical insights.
My journey into marketing had begun!
My Pre-University, Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes covered
courses in Accounting, Marketing, Advertising Management, International
Business and Finance.
My decision to do the professional course in CA (Chartered Account), was one
of the biggest challenges I faced. It was an intensive course which tested me to
the hilt in the skills of application, determination, concentration, perseverance
and sacrifice of personal comfort. It also gave me a world of confidence to do
sustained research and strengthened my knowledge base which will now stand
me in good stead if I am given the opportunity to pursue research at IIMB.
My academic trajectory has enhanced my understanding of the strategies of doing
business. But the world of marketing continues to intrigue me. My curiosity to
know more about a myriad aspects of marketing such as Consumer Behaviour,
Branding, Advertising, Services Marketing, Digital and Social Media Marketing,
has made me set my sights on doing full-time research in marketing.
As market scenarios and socio, political and economic conditions change, new
knowledge becomes necessary. Research will thus be an ongoing process for me.
I envision research as a lifelong engagement and the means to empower myself
and society with knowledge and move towards sustainable development.
And IIMB with its culture of research, tradition of learning, conducive
atmosphere, state-of-the-art facilities and faculty with awe-inspiring profiles and
world-class expertise will provide me with the perfect platform to do unhampered
and in-depth research.
The research experiences of Professors S Ramesh Kumar and G Shainesh and
Associate Professors Ashish Mishra and Seema Gupta, are in line with my area
of interest, and it would be a privilege to be guided by them.
Meticulousness, zeal, eye for detail, strong sense of commitment, capacity for
unflagging effort and fearless approach to take on challenges are my strengths,
which will enable me to undergo a rigorous Ph.D programme.
I would like to contribute to both academia and industry with the fruits of my
research. I would like to join a research-intensive or higher education institute
and help and guide youngsters towards research. I would also like to be a market
researcher and analyst and help towards enriching brands, branding, customer
satisfaction and entrepreneurial ventures.
And for this it is imperative that I equip myself with knowledge and know-how
through continual research.
The rich experience that I will be gleaning at IIMB through my research will help
me add to the knowledge pool of society, thereby enabling me to serve my society
which has given me so much.

PERSONAL STATEMENT
The magnetism of the world of trade and commerce drew me powerfully as a
young adolescent just out of school, trying to find my feet. The fascination that
business and industry held for me then has not diminished. Real life stories of
success and fall of business houses, strategies employed by companies, scams
and scamsters, formed part of my early exposure to what I now recognise as my
chosen field of research, that is, ‘Strategy’.
My Pre-University, Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes covered
courses in Accounting, Marketing, Business Law, Corporate Law and Finance.
An unquenchable thirst for knowledge in the field of corporate law made me
pursue the professional course in Company Secretaryship (CS). It was one of the
biggest challenges I took up. It was an intensive course which tested me to the
hilt in the skills of application, determination, concentration, perseverance and
sacrifice of personal comfort. The greater upshot of doing CS was gaining a world
of confidence to do sustained research. I am now a qualified Company Secretary.
I did two projects as part of the course component of Company Secretaryship -
‘Analytical Case Study on Competition Commission of India’ and ‘Impact of
Elements of Corporate Governance on Sustainability of Indian Companies’-
which strengthened my knowledge base and will now stand me in good stead if I
am given the opportunity to pursue research at IIMB.
My academic trajectory so far has broadened my intellectual horizon, enhanced
my understanding of the structures and strategies of doing business, but whetted
my appetite to know more about Corporate Governance, International Business,
Marketing Strategies and Strategic Alliances, which has made me set my sights
on doing full-time research.
The research experiences of Professors Rejie George Pallathitta, P D Jose and R
Srinivasan are in line with my area of interest, and it would be a privilege to be
guided by them.
Zeal, meticulousness, eye for detail, strong sense of commitment, capacity for
unflagging effort and fearless approach to take on challenges are my strengths,
which will enable me to undergo a rigorous Ph.D programme.
I would like to contribute to both academia and industry with the fruits of my
research. I would like to join a research-intensive or higher education institute
and help and guide youngsters towards research. I would also like to take on
advisory and consultation roles and help companies strategise their day-to-day
functioning with my ideas and innovation.
And for this it is imperative that I equip myself with knowledge and know-how
through continual research.
The rich experience that I will be gleaning at IIMB through my research will help
me add to the knowledge pool of society, thereby enabling me to serve my society
which has given me so much.
