Doyle. It's a Sherlock Holmes mystery novel that features the legend of a
supernatural hound. I enjoy mysteries because they present interesting
problems to solve and allow me to think critically while I read.

UNIT 3: The world of work

3B Job-hunting

1. Is it more difficult to be unemployed when you’re young or when you’re
older? Why?
2. Is unemployment a problem in your country?
3. Can people in your country get unemployment benefits?

Answer:
1. I think when I’m young or when I am older, both have their difficulties.
Because when I was young, I didn’t have much experience at work. And
when I get older, I don’t have good health and don’t have good memory to
work.

3. In my opinion, watching a DVD at home is better. Because watching a DVD
at home offers convenience, comfort, and control over the viewing
experience. It can also be more cost-effective for groups or families.

Answer:
1. I would say I like ballads a lot. Because when I listen to ballads, I believe it
has the power to at least heal my soul.
I think I wouldn’t say I like rock and roll. I don’t know the reason why
people spend much time seeing and hearing people screaming and yelling on
stage, as it gives me a chronic headache and irritates me sometimes.
2. My favorite band is BTS.

2. Reality shows and comedy shows are among the most popular TV programs. I
think TV programs about economics are not popular.

1. Yes, it is. Because children just want to be at home to watch entertainment
programs whenever they have free time.

PHẦN II: 10 TOPIC SPEAKING.

Topic 1: Talk about the profile of a celebrity you know.

Tran Thanh is an actor-comedian that I love. The actor is 32 years old this year and
has been involved in entertainment activities since 2006. Tran Thanh is a multi-
talented person: fluent in many different languages, good programming ability, and
natural performance. Tran Thanh has been in charge of many roles with many
different topics. But my favorite is the actor’s comedy. Tran Thanh’s comedic style
is both ingenious and charming, giving viewers the most refreshing smiles. Not
only good at acting, but Tran Thanh is also a rich person with affection and
kindness. I love Tran Thanh and I will always watch and cheer for this talented
actor.

Topic 2: Talk about a means of transport you prefer to use.

My favorite form of transportation is the bus. Although it has a few disadvantages,

I still like it because of these advantages. First, the bus is very cheap and suits for
everybody. Second, using the bus is very convenient. Nowadays, buses are
equipped with air-conditioners and free wifi to service customers. Imagine in rush
hour, a thousand people get stuck outside with freaking hot weather, you are inside
a bus enjoying an air conditioner and surfing Facebook. Third, besides a low cost,
the convenience, it also contributes to protecting the environment. Going by public
transportation can lessen the number of cars on the street, and thus reduce carbon
dioxide emissions to the atmosphere. In conclusion, going by bus has many
benefits for us and society.

Topic 3: Talk about your most enjoyable way to relax.

The way people relax or enjoy their free time varies from person to person. I love
to listen to music when I want to relax. Usually, I listen to music at night. I cannot
manage time to enjoy my leisure or relaxation time except at night. Playing the role
of a sales executive is tough indeed. So, I spend a couple of hours after the evening
alone. I like to listen to relaxing music. It helps me feel refreshed. All my stresses
are gone with the tones of musical instruments. And this is also good for my
mental health.

Topic 4: Talk about your ideal job.

Today, I will share with you about my ideal future job. My ideal job is to become a
state civil servant. To become a state civil servant, you will need a college or
university degree and then you need to pass a civil servant selection exam. It
became my ideal job because I wanted to contribute to my country, the communist
party of Vietnam, and Vietnamese citizens.

Topic 5: Talk about the love story of a couple you know.

Today, I’m going to tell you about a couple I know, which is Kim Tae Hee and Bi
Rain from South Korea. Kim Tae Hee is a famous actor, who is known as the most
beautiful person in the land of Kimchi. Bi Rain has an extremely successful acting
and singing career and was once known as the prince of Asia. They first met in
2013 when they worked together on a commercial. They started falling in love
from here and got married in 2017. Their love is so good and has two daughters.
They love and protect each other very much. Their love story inspired many young
couples.

Topic 6: Talk about your favorite fairy tale.

The folk tale I like best is The Starfruit Tree. It is a folk tale. The main characters
are two brothers and the eagle. Once upon a time, a rich man was living in a
village. When he died, he left his two sons all his fortune. However, the elder
brother is very greedy, he takes all valuable things and gives his younger brother
only a starfruit tree. The younger always took care of the tree, he watered it every
day with the hope that it would give him a lot of fruits so that he could earn some
money by selling them. One day, when the fruits of the tree could be sold, there
was an eagle came and ate the fruit. The younger brother begged the eagle not to.
The eagle promised to repay him on its back to an island of gold. There, he filled
the bag with gold. When he got home he was rich. The elder brother offered to
swap his fortune for his brother's tree. Then, the eagle helped the elder brother take
gold. As the eagle was flying back, the load was too heavy. The eagle got tired and
dropped the elder brother into the sea. I like it because it brings a good lesson. It is
not too greedy like the elder brother.

Topic 7: Describe the last time you had a special meal.

The meal that makes me unforgettable is eating with my family during Tet. I am a
student living and studying away from my hometown, so a meal with my family is
rare. Therefore, I appreciate the meal on the Tet holiday - a meal full of parents,
and siblings. At the table, everyone gathered to talk about their past experiences in
the year, talk about their wishes for the coming year, and also cheer and encourage
each other to go through difficulties and challenges. A cozy meal full of family
members. With banh chung, banh tet, and sticky rice, ... the dishes are extremely
simple but bold in Vietnamese style, homeland identity. That's why I can't forget
the taste. Perhaps, for every person, a special meal is eating expensive food in
luxurious places, but eating at home is the most precious thing I wish to do.
Perhaps hopefully, Tet will come soon, and all family members will always be at
peace so that I can gather with my parents again in the family tray.

Topic 8: Talk about your favorite TV program.

Among many programs and channels available on TV these days, I like the
program "The World of Animals" most. This program is usually shown on VTV2
every day at 8.30 p.m. It often lasts about 45 minutes. In this program, the life
stories of many animals in the world are told in a very lively way. While watching
these films, I find the everyday life activities and habits of these animals very
interesting and mysterious. In addition, I also learned that it is essential for us to
protect these animals and their living conditions. Watching this program makes me
well-informed and relaxed after a day of work.

Topic 9: Talk about a film that you saw recently.

Today I’d like to talk to you about Harry Porter which I watched last week. It was
a fiction film telling a story about people in the wizarding world. The central
character was Harry Porter, who used to be an orphan in the normal world before
discovering that he was a wizard. Afterward, he went to a special school called
Howard which taught him the necessary skills to succeed in the wizarding world.
He also had to deal with challenges in terms of study, friendship, love, and even
the fight against dark power.
Harry Porter was recommended as a masterpiece that made me feel curious about
it. Moreover, I had read the original novel before, and I really can’t put it down. So
I guess the film would be as attractive as the book. I think the most important
reason why I enjoyed this film was that it made me feel adventurous. It was a
fantastic film.
Topic 10: Talk about a popular band that you know.
Nowadays, there are many bands around the world such as Blackpink, Maroon 5,
One Direction, and Big Bang... but the most famous band in the world is BTS.
BTS is a band that comes from Korea. It's 7 members: Jungkook, V, Jin, Suga, J-
hope, Jimin, Rap Monster. They are very handsome and talented. BTS can play
many kinds of music, their songs are juicy and attractive to many viewers. People,
especially teenagers like them very much, and neither do I. They are famous
because of their handsome and their personalities. They inspire a lot of self-love in
a collaborative campaign between UNICEF and BTS to help end violence and help
young people love themselves more, which has attracted 5 million tweets and more
than 50 million interactions. They are the best band I have ever seen.
