How Man-made global warming/climate change affects the population of Polar bears
Aim:The aim of this investigation is to see how man-made climate change such as the
burning of fossil fuels affects the population of polar bears
As the climate gets warmer due to the burning of fossil fuels, the ice caps melt, in turn
destroying the polar bears habitat and ability to hunt. Climate change inadvertently causes a
decrease to biodiversity.
From my research we can see that there has been a major decline in the population of Polar
bears by the effects of climate change on their habitat, making them vulnerable on the
endangerment scale. As seen on the graph the number of polar bears has decreased in 2021
in relativity to the population in 2010. In 2010 there was (38,607) number of polar bears in
the countries (Canada,USA,Russia Norway Denmark) however in 2021, it was estimated be
(30,738). That is an estimated 8,000 decrease after just 11 years, and it is still steadily
declining with their currently estimated to be only 26,000 polar bears in the whole world

Underlying Biology-Climate change is a mega phenomenon that is happening faster and
faster each year and one of the main culprits is the burning of fossil fuels. When fossil fuels
are burned, they release enormous quantities of CO2 into the air. However, these greenhouse
gases get trapped in our atmosphere in turn causing global warming. As the population
increases so does the need for, a cheap and reliable energy source, to help fuel our
transportation, generate electricity and heat buildings but in turn has a grave impact on our
polar bears. As the earth warms the ice that the polar bears depend on for hunting, mating
and resting melts away pushing them further and further in land, where they start to hunt
and have conflicts with the human species. According to the graph from 1980-2022 the sea
ice has melted from a healthy 12.4 million km to a dwindling 10.7 million km that is over 1.7
million km of sea ice that has melted away. The impact of Global warming is the loss of
biodiversity and habitats.
Conclusion- In conclusion as climate change gets worse, mostly to the burning of fossil fuels,
the population of polar bears will continue to decline. In order to stop polar bears from
becoming inadvertently ext
