TILLEY’S DRESSING FORCEPS
USES:
1)To perform anterior nasal packing.
2)To remove foreign bodies ,crust or
packs from the nose.
3)Introduction of medicated pledgets
for local anesthesia in the nasal cavity
4)For packing and unpacking the ear
canal.
5)For delivery of medicated dressing
into the ear canal.
6)Removal of foreign body from ear
canal.
7)Removal of the cartilage and bony
pieces during septoplasty.
HARTMANN DRESSING FORCEP
THUDICUM NASAL SPECULUM
It is a self retaining nasal speculum
Held over the hooked index finger of the non
dominant hand
Blades are then close by pressing between the
middle and ring finger
USES:
1)DIAGNOSTIC: Anterior rhinoscopy-nasal septum,
little’s area,lateral wall of nose,nasal cavity
2)THERAPEUTIC :Removal of the foreign bodies,antral
wash,nasal packing,surgical procedure inside the
nose.
HARTMANN TUNNING FORK
Parts of tuning fork are:1) two prongs
2) stem
3) base(foot plate)
Commonly used : 512HZ,256HZ,1024HZ
MOST IMPORTANT IS 512HZ
USES:
For hearing assesment tests-rinne test,weber test etc
LAC TONGUE DEPRESSOR

USES;
1)Examination of the oral cavity and
oropharynx
2)To retract lips and cheek
3)To express pus out of tonsil-septic
squeeze test
4)To test gag reflex
5)For cold spatula test to check patency
of nasal passage
6)For posterior rhinoscopy
7)For oral cavity procedure like injection
of steriods,biopsy,excision cysts etc
JOBSON HORNE PROBE

It has two ends 1) round serrated end


applicator and 2) curette end
USES:
1)one end of the probe is used for
applying cotton to clean the ear
discharge.
2)The ring curette end is used to
remove wax and foreign body.
EAR VECTIS WITH CERUMEN SPUD
INDIRECT LARYNGOSCOPE MIRROR
The instrument has a handle ,shaft and a plain
mirror at an angle.The focal length of the mirror
is at infinity.The mirror is available in various size
ranging from 8mm to 30mm.
USES:
1)For the examination of tongue
base,vallecullae,aryepiglottic
fold,glossoepiglottic folds,arytenoids,ventricular
band,vocal cord,pyriform fossa,interarytenoid
region and posterior pharnygeal wall for any
foreign body,inflammatory,non
inflammatory,traumatic or neoplastic lesions
2)To remove small foreign bodies like fish bone
3)To remove tissue for HPE.
ST. CLAIR THOMPSON POSTERIOR
RHINOSCOPY MIRROR
The instrument has a bayonet shaped handle so
that the examiner’s hand does not block his
vision. The mirror size available in sizes 0 to
5.This is a plain mirror and does not magnify the
image.
The mirror surface is either heated or dipped in
savlon( or touched against oral mucosa) in order
to prevent fogging during the procedure. The
tongue is depressed gently with a tongue
depressor and this mirror is introduced in like a
pen with mirror facing upwards.
USES:
1)Posterior rhinoscopy
2)To examine post nasal space after
adenoidectomy top look for ant remnants
OTOSCOPE
The most commonly used otoscope consists of a handle
and a head.The head contains light source and simple low
power magnifying lens,typically around 8 dioptre.The
distal end of the otoscope has attachment of disposable
plastic ear speculum.

The otoscopic exam is performed by gently pulling the


auricle upward , backward and laterally. In children, the
auricle should be pulled downward and backward. This
process will move the acoustic meatus in line with the
canal. Hold the otoscope like a pen/pencil and use the
little finger area as a fulcrum.

USES:
1)To examine the TM and EAC
2)Examine nose in infants
3)Remove foreign body
