7
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

8
Artificial and intelligence are combined to form the term artificial intelligence. Artificial is “not
real” or “natural,” whereas intelligence is defined as “the ability to reason, to trigger fresh ideas,
to perceive, and to learn.” Artificial intelligence is the theory that a machine can mimic human
intelligence and do tasks that range from extremely simple to very complex. Artificial
intelligence (AI) aims to simulate human cognitive processes that may be expressed explicitly,
like perception, memory, and reasoning. Though the extent of malpractice in this field has
improved in the realms of research and development, some experts offer an estimate that the
capacity to reason about any topic may be surpassed even by AI in the near future. Critics claim
that cognitive processes are bound to be affected by social relations and that is why such
attempts are unlikely to be fruitful. A branch of computer science known as artificial
intelligence (AI) that seeks to create systems that would be capable of performing activities that
are characteristic of human intellect. This method encompasses development of systems that
can recognize patterns, have attitudes, and even converse with people in natural language. AI
is realized through Machine Learning which is a process that allows computer systems to learn
from data without having to be programmed. Statistical analysis can be used on large sets of
data to make discoveries and projections on the results amassed. Some of the applications of
machine learning includes the ability to identify and analyse audio signals and images, natural
language processing. Natural language processing is actually an aspect of artificial intelligence
whereby robots are taught to understand what people are saying and to say it back. Thus, speech
recognition technology can be used as the foundation for virtual assistants, as well as for
applications such as chatbots and recognition programs. Another field of artificial intelligence
is known as the computer vision, which is the process of training robots to analysed
images/videos and comprehend them. Some of the applications include face recognition
software, security cameras, and self-driving cars. Indeed, the incidence of the use of Artificial
Intelligence technology is poised to rise as technology advances in order to impact almost every
part of our lives. It can revolutionise industries and applies to solve complex problems that were
deemed to be unsolvable before. But as the saying goes, all those which have advantages also
have disadvantages. There are some concerns looking at the possible side effects of AI; Some
of them, which may fall under the umbrella of ethical issues, are about the idea of creating
machines that can go much further than just being our executors and interact with us in an even
more profound way.

9
The Evolution of Artificial Intelligence

The Early Days of AI:

It was in the 1950s that scientists and researchers started thinking and working in the aspects of
developing robots that can possess human-like intelligence. The term ‘artificial intelligence’
was coined by Alan Turing, a British mathematician and computer scientist in his paper
‘Computing Machinery and Intelligence’ published in 1950. He proposed a “Turing test” for a
machine, which if passed would indicate that the machine was intelligent, or as he put it, human
Turing test.

The Dartmouth Conference:

In 1956, John McCarthy conducted a workshop of artificial intelligence at Dartmouth

University where people involved in the subject of AI were involved to discuss the future of the
system and new techniques on how to invest in the field.

Expert Systems:

Subsequent to the year 1970-1980, the attention of the AI researchers transitioned to the design
of expert systems. These systems are supposed to replicate the decision-making skills of
specialists in specific fields. Expert systems have gained application across numerous fields
such as the medical, finance, and engineering fields.

Machine Learning:

In the early 1990’s, the studies on artificial intelligence again resumed with the concept of
machine learning. The main branch of artificial intelligence is machine learning that aims at
developing the machine learning that can learn from information. The purpose of artificial
intelligence is to leverage the algorithm that is able to learn substantial big data sets, and
produce greater accuracy.

10
Deep Learning:
Deep learning emerged as a new technique in the branch of machine learning in the first half of
the 2010s. Artificial neural networks are used in deep learning to predict large amount of data
that has being fed into the system. This technology has made it possible to come up with
complex applications including speech recognition, video and image recognition and, natural
language processing.

Current Developments:

Today AI is employed in many fields, from speech recognition to auto-pilot of automobiles.

The development of such AI technologies as natural language processing, machine vision and
robotics is on a growth up-slope, and a range of industries are in risk of being disrupted. AI
technologies are becoming smarter and are now capable of learning from proliferating data in
unimaginable fashions.

Use of Artificial Intelligence in different sector

Here are some examples of how AI is being used in different sectors:

Healthcare Sector:

The healthcare business is shifting with the help of incorporation of technologies of artificial
intelligence. There are programs today that can catch parades that are linked with diseases as
well as recommend treatments based on the images of diseases as well as patient records. In
addition, the AI-based intelligent assistant may include the ability to speak to patient, provide
a welcome message, monitor patient’s health status, or give related health tips. AI algorithms
are also being used to analyse massive amounts of medical data in order to predict patient
outcomes, boost research on drugs, and foster precision healthcare

Finance Sector:

11
In the following way, the role of Machine learning is used in the detection of fraudulent
transactions: AI is also used to identify the fraud detection algorithms that are able to detect
conductance with fraudulent activity. Some of the areas that employ this technology include
rating of the credit worthiness of the borrowers, carrying out trading activities through the use
of algorithms as well as the monitoring of the investment portfolios. Moreover, assessment of
financial data for identifying investment zones starts and applies artificial intelligence in
optimization of investment processes.

Transportation Sector:

Automobiles alone are one such possibility of artificial intelligence in the field of transportation.
To drive the vehicle and avoid any accidents on a road, directions have to be made, for which
there is the need to employ the AI algorithm to process different inputs from the sensors fitted
in the vehicle. AI is also employed in what can be referred to as navigation, that is identification
of how to get the transport systems to take best routes, and better manage cases of traffic jams
that would later help in the conservation of fuel.

Manufacturing Sector:

Introducing and applying AI goes on to increase the variety of various and complicated
operations and practices that work to improve distinct industries. It has been found that
cognitive applications are also being deployed to browse through the data created in the period
of manufacturing to check for areas that can be made more cost effective and, in the process,
improve the supply chain processing system. These are still the broad strategies of predictive
maintenance techniques that are in the process of barring the off-line time of the equipment’s,
increasing yields and cutting on costs of maintenance.

Customer Service Sector:

This is also affecting the customer service through development of the chatbots and virtual
assistants that customers can engage in. Such bot solutions can be designed for various types of
interactions with consumers: although they themselves can respond to various requests and

12
questions, the representatives of the company’s customer support service can deal with more
sophisticated and unique scenarios. Besides, the AI can become the set of the tools which can
help to affect the customer databases and insights into consumers’ behaviours to improve the
creation of products and services offered by companies.

Education Sector:

Modern education supplemented with artificial intelligence help the world change and give
students a chance to make what they inevitably dream about. Integrating the data from multiple
sources with the help of artificial intelligence allows receiving essential data concerning the
outcomes of education and identifying the requirements to further education and training for
students. It can also be used in developing of digital tutors which may be in a position to engage
dynamically with students one on one while being in a position to provide feedback which may
help improve learning.

Agriculture Sector:

AI is playing a vital role in agriculture by escalating the output and utilization of the beneficial
AI integrated weather report and condition of soil and crop. This is because of various aspects
that AI algorithms have and some of them include discovering the parts of a field that requires
enhancement in the fertilization process, diagnosis of diseases and pests at the right time, and
irrigation. Further, AI also aids to try to predict the yields based on the satellite data and to
deliver AI data for developing insurance schemes for crops.

Energy Sector:
Artificial intelligence is being used to optimize energy usage, detect equipment faults, and
enhance energy efficiency. Data from smart meters as well as additional energy monitoring
devices can be analyzed by AI algorithms to discover trends in energy usage and give
recommendations for lowering energy consumption. Furthermore, AI can be used to anticipate
equipment breakdowns, thereby avoiding expensive downtime and repairs.

13
Evolution of education system

Ancient education (before 500CE)

Prior to 500CE, education was largely informal a centered on viable aptitudes, practical skills
and social responsibilities in ancient societies including Egypt, Greece, Mesopotamia and
Rome. Formal education was often reserved for elite students, with schools fundamentally
serving the children of nobles and aristocrats. Subject instructed included perusing, reading,
writing, algebra and practical skills required for scribes, priests and artisans.

Medieval education (500CE – 1500 CE)

During the Middle Ages between 500CE – 1500 CE, education was predominantly under the
purview of religious institutions, particularly monasteries and Cathedral Schools. The
educational programmed rotated around the seven liberal arts – grammar, logic, automatic,
geometric, music an astronomy with primary focus on Latin and religious studies. Education
was constrained to clergy, respectability and few from Velde merchant families.

Renaissance and Edification (14th – 15th centuries)

It witnessed a restoration of interest in classical learning a rise of humanism. During this,

printing became more widely available, making books more accessible. The expansion of
scientific knowledge and recent inquiry was further promoted by enlightenment.

Industrial revolution (18th -19th century)

The period between 18th and 19th century rot around significant modifications as a result of
mechanical transformation, in order to meet the requests off mechanical economies .in many
nations, regulations requiring children to attend school were passed to ensure that all the
children will receive basic education, name the establishment for all-inclusive schooling. The

14
focus of education shifted to fundamental reading and numeracy skills that were needed for
business in industrial facilities. The curriculum prepared pupils for everyday duties focusing on
rote memorization and discipline.

20th century (1900s)

The 20th century saw the expansion of public schooling as a result of government ventures
made within the field to fulfil the request of growing populations will stop education was
accessible to children from different socio-economic backgrounds. The curriculum was divided
into specialized subject including science, literature, history and foreign languages do too
growing complexity of modern society and need for specialized knowledge, style center
learning, experimental learning and all encompasses education where do I love with educational
movements such as Montessori, Waldorf. These methods put solid accentuation on developing
students critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving abilities.

20th century to present late (1900s – present)

The late 20th century so efforts that promote equity as well as inclusivity in education, with a
particular emphasis on ensuring that all the students had access to high quality education,
regardless of their color gender cast social economic background or disability. The digital
revolution was started with the introduction of computers, Internet and digital technologies that
completely transformed learning. With the availability of interactive learning materials,
abundance of information and online collaborative tools changed the way completely in which
the people teach and students learn. There was a growing importance of lifelong learning within
the 21st century, as people auto adjust quickly evolving employment markets and technology
breakthroughs. Education is no longer confined only to the formal schooling but extends
throughout one's lifelong, which include both formal and informal learning experiences.

21st century (2000s – present)

With the development of 21st century abilities, including communication, teamwork, critical
thinking for my creativity and digital literacy was uh priority for the education systems in 21st

15
century. These aptitudes are seen as a fundamental for victory within information economy.
Methods that address each student requirements their learning preferences and interest are
becoming more and more popular. Personalized learning plans and technology enabled learning
fat forms let’s students to learn an understand the topics according to their own speed and they
can concentrate on areas which will require more help. Globalization has driven to more note
for the social differences in classrooms, educators are being compelled to implement culturally
responsive teaching strategies and encourage the students to develop empathy and inter cultural
understanding.

Artificial Intelligence in Education Sector

One of the most important spheres of society is education. It is connected to every other industry
and has a significant impact on them. Education has a significant impact on the development of
a country and shapes both the destiny of its citizens and the country’s future. The importance
of education in the current context cannot be understated, as it will continue to have a lasting
impact on the development and evolution of the country and its citizens. Because of this
noteworthy education, for instance, the challenges faced by the education sector during
COVID-19 are noteworthy; however, challenges do not necessarily mean that obstacles will
not be faced by other groups in society. For instance, the COVID-19 pandemic presented issues
for the education sector, although challenges are not exclusive to pandemics of this nature.
In the current era, everything—business, education, banking, and other things—moves online.
This is important for digital technology’s development, growth, and expansion. The term
“Artificial Intelligence” is becoming more and more important, acting as a competent assistant
in almost every industry. The application of AI has gained tremendous traction in recent years,
with the education industry being one of those industries. One of the key developments in
education is the use of IT technology and their applications. Artificial Intelligence (AI)
technologies are welcomed in education; their use in teaching and learning is growing every
day.
The Horizon report, released in 2018, projects a 43% growth in AI applications between 2018
and 2022. According to a report released by the same group, the adoption of AI technology is
expected to increase even farther than previously observed. It is impossible to dispute AI’s

16
significance for education, and the field’s future depends on its use in it. In one way or another,
education has welcomed artificial intelligence (AI), yet many educators don’t know what it is.
Similar to how the introduction of computers and televisions changed education, artificial
intelligence (AI) has attracted the attention of numerous researchers, some of whom are
currently examining the technology’s potential for learning optimization. AI enhances
knowledge and information without displacing traditional educational methods. AI, according
to Loeckx, may be a useful teaching tool that lessens the workload for instructors and students
while sacrificing a tent-like learning environment. AI systems to start solving the current issues
with the Indian educational system. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here to stay and can help
teachers accomplish their goals
The impact of AI on education is still an open subject. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a branch
of machine learning that deals with software that can recognize patterns, anticipate outcomes,
and learn to create new patterns or make decisions on its own. Stated differently, it possesses
the ability to react appropriately to the circumstances, which was not a feature of the software
when it was first created. AI enables it through its logical agents, who are in charge of acting
in a way that is goal-oriented. The concept of a rational agent—which has been used in game
theory, economics, decision theory, etc.—is one who has distinct preferences and makes
decisions based on how to act in order to maximize the outcome given a variety of options.
Studies have confirmed that learning is a social activity that includes interaction and teamwork.
The three primary areas in which AI applications are used in education are Virtual reality,
collaborative learning, and personal tutoring. All the requirements that are used in online
collaboration are to be controlled.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the power to being a change in traditional teaching approaches
and to raise high educational standards. AI-powered tools and platforms may adjust to each
student’s unique demands, improving engagement and knowledge retention by providing
customized information and individualized feedback. This in turn will allow the teachers to
spend considerable amount of time and effort in developing assignments that allow for better
rapport and individual attention to each learner by delegating the ceremonial tasks such as
grading through the use of AI. Kamath Information and Technology, which targets schools,
colleges and universities of India, is one of the educational technology companies that is
progressively implementing AI in its innovation to alter the educational model. These
companies are developing new innovative programs which use AI programs to formulate smart
tutors, help programs for students and efficient learning programs. Thus, it is possible to apply

17
artificial intelligence in connection with the evaluation process, especially when a large amount
of data on students has been collected, in addition to using AI in education and learning with
the help of virtual classes. It can inform and quantify that at the specific time when the material
is being delivered and understood, unlike the traditional cessation of learning methodology that
takes a lot of time for an assessment. It is possible to track the students’ performance by using
AI tools and occasionally analyse them. It has algorithms to predict the character of
developmental progression of the students, chances of obtaining a particular grade, and other
problems related to assignments, with a reasonable level of probabilities.

In conclusion, there is a lot to offer in the field of education by artificial intelligence (AI). In an
effort to keep up with the latest advancements in technology, educational institutions must
contrivance artificial intelligence (AI) tools for teaching and learning. Educational institutions
can use AI in accordance with their needs and goals.

Machine Learning

The term “Machine learning” was coined by Arthur Samuel, a pioneer in the area of artificial
intelligence and computer gaming. He defined the term machine learning as – an area of study
that provides computers capability to learn without being explicitly programmed. Basically,
Machine learning is a branch of artificial intelligence that develops certain algorithms by
learning hidden patterns of datasets that are used in making predictions on new similar type
data, without being specially programmed for each task. In simple terms with the creation of
algorithms and models, computers can learn from the given data and make predictions or
judgements and there is no need to be programmed explicitly.

Algorithms are trained to find relationship and patterns in data and use historical data as input
to classify information, make decisions and provide with new content. Let’s understand the
concept of machine learning with the help of an example.

Let say that we have a complex problem and based on which we have to make certain
judgements, decision and prediction. For a person who knows coding will write a code and will
solve it but a person who don’t know coding, will solve it with help of machine learning, he/she

18
just needs to feed data the data to algorithms which will automatically build certain logic-based
data and predict the output. It is much similar to data mining as it is also used and deals with
large amount of data. Both time and money can be saved by using machine learning.

In 2016, Luckin et al. Has conducted a study that was on AI application in education, based on
particularly personalised learning experience or tailored learning. Through an extensive
literature review, the researchers found that individualised learning greatly enhances student
results. This shows that tailoring the methods two individual students and tailoring educational
content, adjusting instructional strategies and preferences of the specific students Cam help in
achieving better learning results. in this methodology, an analysis of prior research a synthesis
of data was involved to make judgments and to draw conclusions about effectiveness of
personalised learning within though framework off AI driven educational applications.

Holmes et al. (2019), has conducted a meta-analysis to explore the impact of a integration that
affects learning results will stop there the search was mainly focused on evaluating the effects
of integrating AI technologies with conventional teaching methods will stop during the
research, the researchers discovered that integrating AI Leeds to improving learning as

methods can enhance the effectiveness of educational interventions the methodology involved
combining data from various studies to provide oh auto analysis off relationship between AI
integration and learning outcomes.

Zhang and Nouri in 2019 conducted a case study that explains how are tutors are helping in
higher education their focus was on Investigating the effectiveness of AI tutors and importance
of providing high quality input data for optimal support to students. They came to a conclusion
through their research that in order for AI tutors require access to high quality input data who

CHAPTER 4: RESEARCH
METHODOLOGY

45
Research is defined as a diligent investigation or inquiry, particularly one that
seeks unique information in any subject of study.

RESEARCH DESIGN:

The research design refers to the working approach or plan of a research study. It is a list of
only the most important research components, those that provide broad guidelines for the
project's particular. It is made up of several previous options that, when combined, form
master plans for carrying out research projects.

A research design connects what has been determined, such as study objectives, to what must
be done to fulfil those objectives. There would be no clear direction for the study's actions if it
did not have a research design. I have used "Exploratory Type” and “Descriptive Type”. Both
qualitative and quantitative research are used in this study.

OBJECTIVES

Any activity that is done without a defined purpose in mind will fail. Objective provides a
specific direction for an operation. The objectives of the study may range from extremely
broad to extremely specific, but they should be clear enough to indicate what the researcher
hopes to accomplish with the investigation and how it will assist the decision maker in
solving a problem with some degree of reasonable accuracy.

The main objective of the research are as follows:

1. Investigate the upsides and challenges of implementing AI adoption in education sector.

moment institutions are learning that teachers are replaced by AI in teaching, learning process.
But the fact is that AI and robots will never replace teachers. Teaching is an intellectual activity
that involves not only transmission of information but also formation of social and emotional
skills that is why the teacher will never be replaced by another machine. Based on the conduct
research instructors can regulatory an adequately introduce AI to enhance teaching without
regarding it as a replacement. In this regard, instructors need to develop AI literacy, get a clear
understanding of how AI Can adequately work alongside teachers and students an what some
potential issues might be and manage various factors such as data protection ethics and privacy.
Based on a recent report from Microsoft and McKinsey of more than 2000 Canadian Singapore
2000 teachers or more in America and UK AI is now providing new innovative ways for
teaching a school to study their student programmes as well as content duration is swift
customised and targeted.

adjust grading for almost every type of multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank testing, and
automatic grading of student writing seems not too far behind.

2 Students might get more further instruction from AI tutors. These programs can educate
students gloss things, don’t seem to be however is ideal for getting to facilitate students study
high-order thinking and creative thinking, something that real-world teachers are continued to
wish to assist. However, that shouldn’t rule out the prospect of AI tutors being able to try to do
those things within the future.

3 Programmes driven by AI can provide helpful feedback to students and educators. AI can help
students and educators both in tailoring courses that can meet their specific needs. It can also
provide overall feedback on how well the course is doing these systems of AI empowered the

55
students to receive necessary support and identify areas for the teachers to enhance their
teaching methods

4 In future, might the roles of the teacher will be shifting due to the advancement in technology
and particularly intelligent computing systems. There will be always a place for teachers in
education but their responsibilities and duties may evolve. With AI capable of handling tasks
like grading and providing personalised learning experiences former teachers may focus more
on guiding students and more of their time were utilised in training students here rather than
doing all the other activities.
