1. INTRODUCTION

A. Purpose: This guideline outlines the rules, format, and evaluation criteria for submitting memorials in
the Intra-College Moot Court Competition.

B. Scope: These rules are binding on all participating teams and must be strictly adhered to.

2. GENERAL RULES

A. Submission Requirement: Each team must submit memorials for both the Petitioner/Appellant and the
Respondent.

B. Submission Mode: Memorials must be submitted both in soft copy (PDF) and hard copy as specified
by the Moot Court Committee (MCC).

C. Deadline: Memorials must be submitted before the deadline mentioned in the official timeline. Late
submissions will incur penalties.

3. MEMORIAL FORMAT AND STRUCTURE

3.1. GENERAL FORMATTING

A. Page Size: A4

B. Font: Times New Roman

C. Font Size –

a. Text: 12 (Double-spaced)

b. Footnotes: 10 (Single-spaced)

c. Margin: 1 inch on all sides

d. Alignment: Justified

e. Header/Footer: Page number at the bottom centre of each page.

D. Line Spacing –

a. Main Text: Double-spaced

b. Footnotes: Single-spaced

3.2. MEMORIAL COMPOSITION

Each memorial must include the following sections in the specified order –

A. Cover Page

a. Colour Coding –

i. Petitioner/Appellant: Blue Cover

ii. Respondent: Red Cover

b. Contents –

i. Name of the Competition

ii. Name of the Forum (e.g., Supreme Court, High Court)

iii. Title of the Case

iv. Role of the Party (Petitioner/Appellant or Respondent)

v. Team Code (No reference to the institution name)

B. Table of Contents

A clear and hierarchical list of all sections of the memorial with corresponding page numbers.

C. List of Abbreviations

An alphabetical list of all abbreviations used in the memorial.

D. Index of Authorities

A list of all legal authorities (statutes, case laws, books, articles) cited in the memorial, organized as –

a. Case Laws (in alphabetical order)

b. Statutes and Acts

c. Books and Articles

d. Online Sources

E. Statement of Jurisdiction

A brief section establishing the jurisdiction of the Court or Tribunal over the case.

F. Statement of Facts

An objective summary of the facts relevant to the case, without any argumentative language.

G. Issues Raised/Statement of Issues

A clear list of all legal issues that will be addressed in the arguments.

H. Summary of Arguments

A brief outline of each argument, summarizing the main points without detailed analysis.

I. Arguments Advanced

The main section containing detailed legal arguments, including –

a. Clear headings and sub-headings for each argument.

b. Relevant laws, case laws, and legal principles.

c. Logical and well-organized presentation of arguments.

J. Prayer

A concise conclusion stating the relief sought by the party (Petitioner/Appellant or Respondent).

3.3. CITATION FORMAT

A. Citation Style: The Indian Law Institute Style is mandatory.

B. Footnotes: Must be used for citations, with no endnotes allowed.

C. Accuracy: Ensure that all cited sources are accurate and properly referenced.

4. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

4.1. NUMBER OF COPIES

A. Soft Copies: One PDF file for each memorial (Petitioner and Respondent) must be submitted
electronically to the official email specified.

B. Hard Copies: Three printed copies of each memorial (Petitioner and Respondent) must be submitted
to the MCC.

4.2. NAMING CONVENTION FOR SOFT COPIES

File Name: [Team Code]_[Petitioner/Respondent].pdf

(e.g., TC-01_Petitioner.pdf, TC-01_Respondent.pdf)

4.3. PRINTING REQUIREMENTS FOR HARD COPIES

A. Paper: A4 white paper.

B. Binding –

a. Petitioner/Appellant: Blue cover page.

b. Respondent: Red cover page.

c. Plastic covers or spiral binding.

4.4. SUBMISSION DEADLINE

A. Soft Copy Submission: [Specify Date and Time]

B. Hard Copy Submission: [Specify Date and Time]

C. Late Submission Penalty: 2 marks will be deducted for every hour of delay in submission.

5. SCORING CRITERIA

5.1. TOTAL MARKS: 100 MARKS PER MEMORIAL

A. Knowledge of Law and Facts: 20 Marks

a. Correct application of legal principles.

b. Understanding of the case facts.

B. Interpretation of Legal Principles: 20 Marks

a. Logical interpretation and use of precedents.

C. Argumentation and Analysis: 20 Marks

a. Coherence, clarity, and structure of arguments.

D. Use of Authorities: 20 Marks

a. Relevance and accuracy of citations.

E. Language and Grammar: 10 Marks

a. Language proficiency, grammar, and sentence structure.

F. Formatting and Adherence to Guidelines: 10 Marks

a. Compliance with formatting rules and guidelines.

6. DISQUALIFICATION AND PENALTIES

6.1. GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION

A. Plagiarism: Any instance of plagiarism will lead to immediate disqualification.

B. Identification Breach: If the name of the college or team members is mentioned anywhere other than
the Team Code.

6.2. PENALTY STRUCTURE

A. Late Submission of Soft Copy: 2 marks per hour.

B. Late Submission of Hard Copy: 2 marks per hour.

C. Formatting Errors: 0.5 mark for each formatting violation (capped at 5 marks).

D. Incorrect Citation Style: 1 mark for each incorrect citation (capped at 5 marks).

7. DISPUTE RESOLUTION

A. Any dispute or complaint related to memorial submission must be raised in writing to the Grievance
Redressal Committee within 24 hours of submission.

B. The decision of the Grievance Redressal Committee shall be final.

8. MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS

A. The MCC reserves the right to modify any of these rules with prior notice.

B. Participants must regularly check for updates and clarifications on the competition notice board or
official communication channels.
