Chapter 1: Nouns
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------
Nouns are words that name people, places, things, or
events. They are the basic building blocks of sentences.
EXAMPLES:
1. This pencil is mine.
2. Our parents love us.
3. The car is color red.
The bolded words are nouns. As you can see, they name specific
objects and the words within the sentence describe the noun.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------
Nouns have different types, or kinds. They will be tackled one by
one on future pages.
Type of Nouns:
1. Common Noun
2. Proper Nouns
3. Concrete Nouns
4. Abstract Nouns
5. Collective Nouns
6. Count and Mass Nouns
The different types of nouns are important because all of them
have different rules. It can be pretty difficult to distinguish and
use them correctly without understanding their concepts.

Chapter 1: Nouns – Common and Proper
Nouns
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------
Let us talk about the two most common types: the Common
Noun and the Proper Noun.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------
Common nouns are words that are general, and does not
have a specific term for the person, place, or object stated.
EXAMPLES:
1. The ball is color red.
2. The car is parked at the garage.
Both of the bolded words did not specify the type of the ball as
well as the type or brand of the car, therefore making them
common nouns. Also, common nouns always start with a
lowercase letter.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------
Proper nouns are words that are specific. Unlike common
nouns, they have a specific term for the noun stated.
EXAMPLES:
1. America is my favorite place. (Specific place)
2. KFC is one of the best fast-food chain I have ever tried.
(Specific fast-food chain)
Both of the bolded words state the specific type of place on the
first sentence and the specific type of the fast-food chain on the
second. Also, unlike common nouns, proper nouns always start
with a capital or uppercased letter.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 1: Nouns – Concrete and Abstract Nouns
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------
Let us now talk about the third and fourth type of nouns: the
Concrete Nouns and the Abstract Noun.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------
Concrete Nouns are nouns that can be identified through
one of the five senses (sight, smell, taste, hearing, or touch).
EXAMPLE:
1. The orange was delicious and juicy.
2. My favorite food is spaghetti.
Both examples, the orange and the spaghetti are food. Since food
can be seen, smelled, tasted and touched, they are concrete
nouns.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------
Abstract nouns are nouns that cannot be identified through
one of the five senses. They are usually feelings or ideas.
EXAMPLE:
1. The
