7 Storage / Disposal
This chapter deals with procedures to be taken with regard
to the storage after the decommissioning of the Hand Slip.
The aim is to protect the Hand Slip, the environment and
people from damages.
FORUM Handling Tools recommends to read and
implement the following procedure accurately.
7.1 Storage
Storage procedure
1. Clean the Hand Slip. FORUM Handling Tools recommends the use of a high pressure cleaner.
2. Store the Hand Slip on a pallet located on an even, supporting surface. Observe the weight
specifications in the technical data.
3. Ensure that the Hand Slip is stored so that no one can be injured by moving parts or sharp edges.
4. Secure the Hand Slip with tensioning cables (or similar manner) to prevent it from slipping or
tipping when moved.
5. Grease the Hand Slip as described in refer to section 6.2 “Lubrication” on page 131.
6. Conserve all not painted metal surfaces. FORUM Handling Tools recommends the use of a
corrosion preventative or Tectyl.
»» These surfaces should be checked periodically to be sure that no corrosion has occurred.
7. Protect the Hand Slip against water penetration with a plastic tarp.
Intermediate Storage
• Apply corrosion preventative to all bare surfaces
(tapered surfaces at the back of each Hand Slip segment
and Die/Insert Sots).
Protection of equipment • Protect all other bare surfaces with Tectyl Type 864 or an
equivalent agent.
• Place Hand Slips only on surrounded pallets and secure
them with tensioning cables and anti-slip mat.
Ambient Conditions • Store in dry surroundings (maximum humidity 80%).
Longer Storage
Protection of equipment • Apply corrosion preventative to all bare surfaces
(tapered surfaces at the back of each Hand Slip segment
and Die/Insert Sots).
• Protect all other bare surfaces with Tectyl Type 864 or an
equivalent agent.
• Place Hand Slips only on surrounded pallets and secure
them with tensioning cables and anti-slip mat.
• Protect the Hand Slip against water penetration with a
plastic tarp.
Ambient Conditions • Store in dry surroundings (maximum humidity 80%).
7.2 Disposal
When used properly, the Hand Slip does not pose any
hazard for users or the environment.
However, operation of the Hand Slip requires use
of lubricants and cleaning agents which can pollute
the environment. For this reason, always ensure that
such substances are disposed of properly according to
international, national and local regulations.
The dispose of greases, oily cleaning rags or oily water
together with industrial or domestic wastes is forbidden.
Observe the safety data sheets published by the
manufacturers on environmental hazards and disposal of
the service and operating products used.
Ensure that all service and operating products as well as
replacement parts are disposed of safely and ecologically.
Please note specifically that FORUM Handling Tools is not
obligated to take back used equipment.
List of Service Products Used
The Safety Data Sheets on the service products used are
included in the appendix to this operating manual.
