Activity: Give example on each categories of popular culture and their
relevance and contribution to popular culture.

a. Social media
 Facebook-Facebook is where we connect with friends and family, share
updates and photos, and enjoy funny videos. And also Facebook had a
significant impact on popular culture, introducing new phrases such as
“unfriend” and “like” into everyday language. It also gave rise to internet
celebrities, boosted business marketing, and sparked media discussions on
its social implications.
 TikTok- is a fun platform where people enjoy, share, and discover short
videos. It’s a great place for creativity, with engaging dance challenges and
funny sketches and also many businesses use TikTok to advertise their
products in creative ways. It has made a big impact on popular culture by
making viral trends like dance challenges and memes super popular.
 YouTube- is a go-to platform for entertainment, with everything from music
videos and movie trailers to funny sketches and vlogs. It’s also a fantastic
source of educational content, offering step-by-step tutorials and insightful
lectures. YouTube has influenced popular culture by offering diverse
entertainment, educational content, and live streaming.
b. Films
 Heneral Luna(2015)- “Heneral Luna” is not just a movie it was a wake-up
call to everyone. It made Philippine history exciting and relevant, reminding
people of the sacrifices made for their country and sparking a real sense of
national pride. It also contributed to popular culture because the film “Heneral
Luna” was a game-changer for the Philippines. It brought history back to life,
sparked national pride, and even influenced the film industry. It made people
think critically about their past and heroes, and it’s still influencing how
Filipinos see themselves today.
 Magnifico- The film “Magnifico” really touched Filipinos because it showed
the strength of families, even when they’re struggling. It has huge impact to
popular culture by highlighting poverty, celebrating family, and inspiring hope
for change. Its themes and characters resonated deeply, making it a cultural
touchstone for Filipinos.
 BuyBust- The film “BuyBust” sparked important conversations in the
Philippines about the drug war, law enforcement, and national
identity, pushing viewers to question traditional narratives and think
critically about social issues.

c. Television Programs
 Eat Bulaga!- The program “Eat Bulaga!” goes beyond being a
television show and has become a significant aspect of Filipino
culture, embodying the country’s values, comedy, and communal
experiences. For many years, it has been a well-known symbol of
the culture in the Philippines, impacting communication and societal
beliefs.
 Pinoy Big Brother- "Pinoy Big Brother" has become part in the
Filipino culture in the Philippines. It helped people become famous,
made people talk about important things, and become a big deal
online. The show reflects Filipino society and has become a source
of national pride, bringing people together and making a lasting
impact on how Filipinos engage with entertainment.
 24 Oras- The television program "24 Oras" has become a big
aspect of Philippine society, impacting the way people in the country
receive news and interact with current affairs. It has gained a
reputation as a reliable source of information, influencing discussions
among the public and bringing attention to important societal
matters. Through its storytelling and representation of Filipino beliefs,
it has gone beyond being a mere news show to become a cultural
phenomenon that unites and educates the nation, leaving a
significant imprint on how Filipinos view their surroundings.

d. Music
 Pop Music- The influence of pop music on popular culture is
significant, bringing together individuals from different cultures
through memorable melodies and relatable words. It also acts as a
medium for addressing social issues, bringing attention to them and
motivating people to take action. Pop artists and their fashion
choices heavily impact current trends, and their song lyrics often
introduce new slang into everyday conversations. Advertisers
frequently use pop music to establish connections with their
audiences. Ultimately, pop music serves as a reflection of the
societal, political, and cultural atmosphere of its era, providing
insight into the values and worries of a generation.
 R&B Music- The impact of R&B music on popular culture is
immense, shaping fashion and dance trends through its unique
styles and memorable choreography. Its songs have also greatly
influenced language and slang, while its poignant storytelling has
provided a platform for addressing social issues such as civil rights,
equality, and empowerment. From the soulful melodies of Motown to
the modern beats of today, R&B’s influence on popular culture
remains undeniable and continues to grow.
 Classical Music- The impact of classical music on popular culture
is widespread, enhancing the soundtracks of movies and TV shows,
motivating modern artists across different genres, and bringing
elegance to advertising campaigns. Its incorporation in renowned
films and its fusion with current trends demonstrate the timeless
appeal of classical music, which surpasses generations and
continues to mold our cultural scenery.

e. Sports
 Basketball- Basketball has had a significant impact on popular
culture, particularly in the realms of fashion, music, and language.
The sport's influence is evident through the popularity of iconic
sneakers and styles, numerous references in music, and albums
produced by players. Additionally, NBA players have used their
platform to advocate for social justice causes. Basketball is also a
widely enjoyed global entertainment phenomenon, featured in
popular films, video games, and international competitions. Its
widespread reach and cultural significance cannot be denied.
 Volleyball-Although it may not be as prominent as other sports,
volleyball has made a significant impact on popular culture. Its
portrayal in movies like "Top Gun" and TV series such as "Friends"
have helped shape its image. Additionally, social media has played
a role in boosting its popularity and showcasing its athletic abilities.
Furthermore, advertising efforts have reinforced its association with
physical fitness and teamwork, proving its lasting appeal to a wide
range of viewers.
 Baseball-Baseball's impact on popular culture is deeply ingrained in
American identity, evident in its prominent role in film and literature,
where it symbolizes hope and resilience. Its fashion influence, from
iconic caps to team branding, fosters a strong sense of community.
Moreover, Jackie Robinson's pivotal role in breaking the color
barrier highlights baseball's contribution to social justice, while its
presence in national political discourse underscores its enduring
symbolic power.

f. Corporate Branding
 Apple- Apple’s presence in popular culture is great because of its
products, successful advertising strategies, and powerful brand
identity. The product of apple have a big cultural influence. They
changed how we use technology and communicate. Apple’s
marketing and stores make people love their products and feel like
they’re part of a group. Apple is not just a tech company, it’s a
global trendsetter.
 Nike- Nike's impact on popular culture is great, because of creative
designs, influential marketing, and smart cultural engagement. Its
products are cultural icons, appeared in films and music, and the
brand actively participates in social conversations. Nike is more
than athletic wear; it's a symbol of aspiration and achievement.
 Starbucks- Starbucks has become a symbol of culture, turning
coffee into a communal activity increasing its value, and establishing
a powerful reputation through advertising and ethical practices. Its
widespread existence and impact on language cement its position in
mainstream society.

g. Personal Branding
 Entrepreneur- Entrepreneurs serve as a source of inspiration,
creativity, and cultural influence through their businesses and public
persona. Their contributions have a significant impact on both the
economy and societal values, shaping ambitions and mirroring the
current state of society.
 Teacher- Popular culture portrays teachers in a variety of ways,
from inspiring mentors and unconventional educators to dedicated
professionals facing real-world challenges.
 Social Media Influencer- Social media influencers have a strong
impact on popular culture as they start trends, shaped beliefs,
promote consumerism, foster communities, and magnify voices.
Nevertheless, worries regarding genuineness and moral advertising
strategies remain.
