ORGANIZATION INTRODUCTION
Women Action Organization is a women led organizations purposely formed to strengthen the
advocacy programing for young people in South Sudan especially at grass root where youth have
limited access to opportunities that can change their lives. This Organization is legally
institutionalized by their individual legality with local authorities. Women and girls in the
country needs our collective support for different thematic areas like education, mentorship,
awareness, engagement through capacity building, access to economic empowerment, health and
livelihood to mention a few. This Organization is made up of three Local CSOs and CBOs. This
Organization is meant to restructure and engage young people to change their thinking
perspectives with linkage to positive developmental aspects during their life time. Through
rebuilding lives/ empowering lives young people are going to be innovative, creative talents and
more productive within both rural and urban areas in South Sudan more especially in the targeted
3 states of Central Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria, Western Equatoria State.
Women Action Organizationis committed to provide access to basic human needs and
improving the lives of women and youth from vulnerable host communities, returnees and IDPs
Women Action Organization through its work in emergencies and long-term development
strategies are aimed at saving lives, relieve suffering and provided opportunities for a better
stand Women Action Organization of living for thousands of people. We work primarily within
rural communities and regions ranked as high priority by the UNOCHA Human Development
Report. Women Action Organization aims at implementing developmental programs which are
humanitarian focused within the Sustainable Development Goal goals (SDGs) as well as long-
term development programs across the mentioned 4 states in South Sudan.

Women Action Organization will work with a consultancy firm and an incubation hub that are
specialized in identification of talent), Pitching Competitions and Youth Engagement in Farming
to conduct and train young people on how to avail or show their talents for competition at the
Women and Youth Engagement in Farming where the young aspiring and practicing talents will
showcase their products and services to link up with potential investors, partners and clients.

JUSTIFICATION
South Sudan attained independence in 2011. It has a population of 12.3 million, with 81 per cent
living in rural areas and 72% under the age of 30(Young People). Government and NGOs cannot
employ everybody but private sector and Youth Engagement in Farming can take everybody but
youth are the most targeted population. Youth within Juba and Yambio have surplus talent
discovered and un discovered, the proposed Go talent will expose these youths through the
Women and Youth Engagement in Agriculture, building and talent showcasing because they lack
opportunities to acquire mentorship and guides, pitching and Youth Engagement in Agriculture.
This makes youth idle which lead to involvement in city crimes. Young people who are
economically vulnerable and highly illiterate, and there are few of the youth who have currently
put their mind into being active into the mentioned art work but still needs more capacity
building and exposure through organizing events, that is why Women Action Organization is
planning to conduct the Women and Youth Engagement in Farming so as to bring youth together
to learn more on the business takeoff state.
Significant investment in youth and in mainstreaming youth issues in key sector policies and
plans is needed to increase their participation in Talent Competition Event like the planned
Youth Engagement in Farming and to capitalize on the potential demographic dividend in South
Sudan especially the targeted state.
In response to the challenges facing young people in the talent building in South Sudan. UN
agencies, INGO’s and NNGO’s has severally initiated interventions with various funding
modalities in other parts of South Sudan mainly in Juba, still more gaps need a collective support
to boost young talents ideas among the young people at the grassroot level in South Sudan.

Women Action Organization has created space for young people where the freely feel free to
express themselves and feel comfortable to work with each other in groups for a better
engagement. The youth voice on their concern is an initiative spearheaded by special youth in the
central Equatoria state and especially those living within Torit municipality. The have expressed
their concerns during the regular meetings conducted by Women Action Organization and IHO
where young people come to the youth friendly center to play, discuss on a round table every
Sunday afternoon, during this meeting young people both male and female have shown their
interest in doing different activities that can bring them income of which we all agree to start
with urban agriculture.

MAIN OBJECTIVE:
The main objective of this Project is to promote self-reliance amongst young people and foster
their empowerment within their communities as they initiate their innovative skills through the
Women and Youth Engagement in Farming project and learn how to manage them.
The specific objectives will include:
 To enhance women and young people’s skills in natural talent through the project
activities identification and participation Local women and youth engagement in
Agriculture.
 Create a platform for show casing skills and talents, partnerships and opportunities to
identify talents activities/investments.
 Leveraging networks and harnessing opportunities for Talent growth and peacebuilding.
 To expose Young people to different cultural diversity on social events among the
women and young people in Eastern Equatoria State.

METHODOLOGY AND ACTIVITIES


Women Action Organization through support of program sponsors will work to conduct the
whole activity considering their specialization, Organization of pitching Competition and
Women Youth Engagement in Agriculture. This is to create tangible impact to youth through
individual cultural diversity and positive Social life at large.
Beneficiaries Selection: Advertisement pitching of women and Youth Engagement in Farming
activities shall have translated messaged on agriculture to educate young people to join
commercial agriculture, jingles through radio talk shows, more advocacy programs will be on
Women Action Organization social media platforms like Facebook, twitter, and will use the
social media influencers and mobilizers to sell the idea state and country wide. Other CSOs
already have a data base of young people who shall also be invited to apply and participate for
the same opportunity. Selection of the beneficiaries will be done through the weekly and bi -
weekly meetings conducted by Women Action Organization and other partners at the women
and girls friendly center in Torit Town.

ACTIVITIES:
This project will have the following activities:
Activities 1: Conduct one project inception meeting that will involve project stakeholders. Like
the ministry of Culture Youth and Sports, Youth, Ministry of Agriculture, County Commissioner
the Mayor, Religious leaders and the members of Parliament.
Activities 2: Conduct 2 days training to orient the project beneficiaries on how to use the
farming methods, build on the agricultural process and other activities that will lead to a
successful.
Activities 3: Farming preparations of seed bed, actual digging the farm lands, crop propagation,
for the diffent group.
Activities 4: Conduct a three days training for 4 categories of participants for different farming
activities to the project beneficiaries targeting 25participants.
Activities 5: Propagate the seeds for the planting in the prepared farming/plots for the gardening
in Isalaro.
Activities 6: Brand and Distribute farming tools and other equipment’s for the farming activities
for the farmer’s use.
Activities 7: Provision of seeds tools and other protective farming equipment’s for the
beneficiaries shelter and storage.
Activities 8: Conduct weekly meeting for the identifying challenges, success and other
innovation to be incorporated in to the farming activities.
Activities 9: Conduct Weekly Visits to farming zone of Isalaro farm in Torit, to check regulars
farming methods and cleaning/weeding of the crops id maintained.
Activities 10: Establish the seed bed for the seedlings for the ticks, Pines and eucalyptus trees
planned for the massive plantation in around Torit.
Activities 11: Transfer of the seedlings of the trees to the planting locations within Torit Town
with the purpose of Making Torit Green.
Activities 12: Conduct monthly evaluation meeting for the quality assurance team to get the best
tracking methods for the progress of the project.
Activities 13: Monthly Maintenance of the farming areas both the raring center and the crop
farms to avoid encroachments of Pests, Vultures and other diseases.
Activities 14: Design and print out project 250 pcs EIC materials with FSL messages in local
languages.
Activities 15: Record Jingles in local languages to be used during the radio talk shows bi-
weekly as a tool to attract more young people to involve in the type of farming planned

Selection: Women Action Organization shall select viable beneficiaries based on the following
criteria:
1. The solution: intention to join the FSL groups which are productive including its social
and environmental impact: This component focuses on the core of the idea/ product/
service and its viability i.e. does it actually solve a problem. The social impact of the
Women and youth with the environmental impact of the talent keeping in mind the
sustainability of the passion.
2. The financials: Women Action Organization shall coach the successful competitors on
utilizing the funds and accountability for the usage of the funds received through the
Youth Engagement in Commercial Farming including all the expenses incurred in line
with selected passion. This will also include checking relevant financial documents like
balance sheets, cash flow statements, and forecasts and the final reports.
3. Traction: The traction component looks at the statements made in the application and
verifies their past income patterns considering visiting some customers/partners to
validate the product and investigate actual revenue growth, user growth, etc.
4. Market and readiness to scale: This component explores the market size, readiness of
the enterprise to grow, deep dives into the advantage(s) of the business against
competitors to stay relevant, and market tests or proofs of the business’s awareness of the
market it is serving.
5. Team: Since investing in a business is as much about the team as the product/ service,
knowledge of the team’s background, their qualifications to serve their respective roles,
previous experience, structure of the organization, and staff turnover will be looked into.
The Youth Engagement in Commercial Farming will be targeting people between the
ages of 15-35 and will ensure that 60% will be females.
6. Corporate documents: Any additional corporate documents such as official registration,
articles of incorporation, shareholder information and agreements, payroll documents,
etc. may be requested for further introspection.
7. Invitation: All the identified youth shall be informed through email address and follow
up phone calls to congratulate them for being selected for the pitching and Youth
Engagement in Commercial Farming where the dates of the training and date of Pitching
together for the Youth Engagement in Commercial Farming shall be communicated.
They will also be asked to confirm their availability on those dates either in writing, by
telephone calls or verbally.
8. Partners: Youth Engagement in Commercial Farming shall not be done in isolation as
other stakeholders shall be brought on board for collective journey towards
empowerment of young people in CSOs, and the ministry of Youth Culture and Sports to
make them self-reliance and economically independent.

Key Project stakeholders:

minister of Agriculture Youth Cluster, State Youth Union, Ministry of Youth & Sports,
Ministry of Finance and National Revenue Authority, County Commissioner.

 Targeted Beneficiaries: Idle Young people aged between 10-35 years both school going
and out of schools.
All the selected young applicants shall attend a one-day meeting on pitching as a rehearsal for
the performance day through the Youth Engagement in Commercial Farming where 30
participants, Youth 15 per location shall showcase their natural skills, talents and services. The
young talented exhibitors will be given a space to exhibit their talents, and will be given an
opportunity to connect and engage with the stakeholders at the event in the two locations.
Ideally, they’ll generate leads, and hopefully close a few performances.

PROJECT EXPECTED OUTCOME:

 A promoted self-reliance amongst young people and fostered and their capacity
empowered within their communities as they initiate their innovative skills through
Commercial Farming project and learn how to manage them.
 Enhanced skills of young people in natural talent through the project activities
identification and participation Local Women Youth Engagement in Agriculture realized.
 A platform created for show casing skills and talents, partnerships and opportunities to
identify talents activities/investments during and after the project activities.
 Leveraging networks and harnessing opportunities for Talent growth and peacebuilding
Established.
 Young people to different cultural diversity on social events among the young people in
Eastern Equatoria State exposed through action of self-sustainable project.
