The document presents an argument against lowering the voting age to 16, asserting that teenagers lack the mental maturity and independent political opinions necessary for responsible voting. It highlights that many young individuals are influenced by their parents and do not understand the significance of their vote. The author concludes that allowing those under 18 to vote would diminish the value of elections and create a manipulable voting demographic for political parties.

Good morning,

Using the notes I uploaded yesterday please write about the following topic...

Writing topic : . Should the right to vote be lowered to the age of 16, instead of 18? What
would be the
advantages or disadvantages? Write an argumentative article giving opinions for and
against this issue.

It is often said that voting should be allowed to a wider range of citizens. However,
even though I agree more people should be allowed to, 16 and 17 year olds are groups of
people that often come up in these discussions, and I couldn’t disagree more.

Firstly, we have to accept that most teenagers aren’t mentally mature enough, most
of them don’t even have a formed political opinion outside of their parents’. At that age, the
vast majority of people have only expanded their knowledge for the purpose of receiving a
better grade at school, and not for the sake of just expanding it. Moreover, a huge part of 18
year olds do not realise the importance that voting has in their lives, and they are the ones
supposed to think like adults. As a matter of fact, my uncle once told me that he didn’t leave
his “age of turkey” (a term we use in my country to describe our behaviour during our
teenage years) until his late 20s. Meaning, until that point he didn’t think rationally. As I
mentioned previously, a minor's viewpoint is normally the same as their parents. Therefore,
not only do they have poor rational thinking but they will also have an opinion influenced by
the context of their families.
In conclusion, I think no one below 18 should be allowed to participate in any kind of
voting that has an effect on other people's lives. As it would further decrease the value of
votes as well as adding an easily manipulatable voting group for political parties.

PD: I know the writing isn’t great. I just didn’t like the topic at all.
