SCENE 1 – The School Library (Present Day)

Lights up. A cozy but slightly dusty school library. Bookshelves, a table, a
glowing old book on a pedestal.

Narrator :
It was World Book Day, and Alex was the only one in the library. While the
others dressed as superheroes and movie stars, Alex had one mission — to
find the oldest, strangest book in the entire school.

Alex (walking in):

Where is it? Mrs. Pepper said the ancient book hadn’t been opened in 100
years...

(Alex spots a glowing book.)

Alex:
That must be it!

(He/she opens the book. Suddenly, a gust of wind. Lights flicker. A figure
appears.)

Luna (appearing magically):

You have opened the Book of Boundless Stories. I am Luna, guardian of
forgotten tales.
Alex (startled):
Wait, what? Are you... a magical librarian?

Luna:
Indeed. And you, reader, have awakened the library that time forgot. Behold
— the characters of forgotten books!

(She waves her hand. One by one, characters appear dramatically.)

Captain Quill (leaping out):

Avast! ‘Tis good to stretch me legs! Where be the nearest adventure?

Princess Zara (regally):

Honestly, I could do with a nap. Do you know how exhausting it is saving
yourself from dragons every other chapter?

Detective Noir (monotone):

Name’s Noir. Someone’s erased my ending. I smell a mystery.

Dragon (voice, unseen):

I do not roar, I rhyme and rhyme,
For I’ve been trapped a long, long time.

SCENE 2 – The Library of Forgotten Stories

Narrator:
Alex had accidentally opened a portal. The characters of the forgotten books
were now real — but there was a problem.

Luna (worried):
If these stories remain unread for too long, they vanish forever — characters,
worlds, and all!

Alex:
So what do we do?

Luna:
You must remember them. Read them. Share them. Or they’ll fade into the
dust of time.

Princess Zara (sassy):

You’d think saving my kingdom three times would earn me a fanbase.

Captain Quill:
Or that burying treasure on the moon would keep a pirate in print!
Detective Noir:
I got one review. “Too gritty.” I work with what I’ve got.

SCENE 3 – The Power of Reading

Narrator:
Alex had an idea — a bold, bookish idea.

Alex:
What if... we put on a show? Tell your stories to everyone in the school?

Dragon (hopeful):
If one child reads, then hope takes flight,
And stories live another night.

Luna (smiling):
Brilliant! We’ll bring the books back to life, one tale at a time.

SCENE 4 – World Book Day Assembly

(The characters "act out" scenes from their stories. Sound effects, laughter,
maybe even music. Students cheer. The lights dim slightly as the show
ends.)

Alex (to the audience):

These stories were nearly forgotten. But they’re full of adventure, mystery,
magic, and truth. They just needed someone to read them.

Luna (final line):

Every time you open a book, you light a spark. Keep reading. Keep
imagining. And the stories will never fade.

(All characters join hands. Lights fade.)

THE END

[Optional Curtain Call with a chant:]

All Together:
“Old or new, thin or thick —
Open a book, take your pick!
Pirates, dragons, queens galore —
Read today, and open the door!”
