FATIGUE MANAGEMENT POLICY

Fatigue Management

Introduction: Recognizing that fatigue can impair judgment, increase error rates, and endanger lives, this
policy establishes measures to identify, mitigate, and manage fatigue among employees.

Policy Guidelines:

 Work Scheduling:
o Develop work schedules that include adequate rest between shifts.
o Follow legally mandated work-hour limitations and industry best practices, week day
work hours should not exceed 10 hours a day and overtime not more than 3 hours a day.
o Saturday and Sunday working hours are up to 14:00hrs to provide for enough rest to
cover the long working hours in the week.
o Job rotations for straining work upon request from the worker and supervisor
recommendation
 Mandatory Rest Breaks:
o Prescribe break periods of up to 30 minute breaks in the morning and afternoon to
mitigate fatigue.
 Monitoring:
o Train supervisors to recognize signs of fatigue:
o Require employees feeling fatigued to report to their supervisor immediately.
 Task Reassignment:
o Allow for temporary reassignment of duties if fatigue is identified, particularly in safety-
sensitive roles.
 Training and Awareness:
o Provide educational sessions on recognizing and managing fatigue.
o Distribute materials on healthy sleep practices and ergonomic work practices.
 Documentation and Review:
o Keep detailed records of work hours, breaks, and any fatigue-related reports.
o Periodically review scheduling practices to identify opportunities for improved rest
management.
