DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN
SCIENCE IV
I. OBJECTIVES
a. Identify what is vibration
b. Demonstrate how sound is produced
c. Describe how sound travels in solid, liquid and gas
II. SUBJECT MATTER: HOW SOUND TRAVEL IN DIFFERENT MATERIALS
Reference: Science Textbook (page 196-197)
Materials: Visual aid, Ruler and Real-life materials
III. PROCEDURE
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
a. Preliminary Activities
PRAYER
Everybody stand
Let’s start our day with a prayer. (The students are praying)
GREETINGS
Good morning class Good morning teacher
How are you today? We are fine. Thank you.
How about you?
I'm good, thanks for asking.
You may now take your sit.
CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE
Class secretary, may I know who's absent
today? None teacher
Very good
That means everyone is here today.
MOTIVATION
Class would you like to sing a song? Yes we would.
Let's sing in 3, 2 and 1 (The students are listening)
A. ACTIVITY
Before we proceed to our lesson, let's do
some activity. A group activity.
So let me group you into 3 groups.
(The teacher divided the class)
Now here's what you have to do;
INSTRUCTION:
1. Get a plastic ruler and press one end to
the edge of the table by holding down
firmly.
2. Push or press down the free end then
release it suddenly. Observe what
happens when you release the free end of
the ruler.
3. Hold the ruler while it is still in motion.
Observe what happens.
4. Repeat #2 and #3 several times or at (The students are listening)
least 3 times. Observe what happens.
Yes teacher.
Did you get it class? None
Do you have any questions?
I'll give you 5 minutes to do the activity. (The students are working on their
You may start now. activity)
Time's up!!
B. ANALYSIS
1 What happened to the ruler when you
suddenly released it? (The students are answering)
2. How do you describe the movement of
the ruler? (The students are answering)
3. Did you hear a sound? Yes
4. Did the sound from the moving ruler
suddenly stop when you held it?
When you release it? (The students are answering)
Very good observation.
C. ABSTRACTION
Today we are going to discuss "How
sound travels in different materials"
Let's read the definition on the board.
-When objects make sound, they move
back and forth. This movement is called
(The teacher discussed) VIBRATION.
-A sound wave travels at different speeds
through different media.
As it travels, sound wave is created in
response to a vibration and how easily
they moved back to their original
position.
(The teacher continued discussing) (The students are listening)
And that's how sound travels.
Did you get it class? Yes teacher
Very good.
Do you have any question about the topic
we have discussed? None.
D. APPLICATION
Let's have another activity.
This will be done again by group.
You will perform different activities in
different stations then answer the
question that each station has.
Here's the direction:
STATION 1
In a table, gently tap it using a hammer.
Observe the sound produced. Then next,
tap the table a little harder. Observe the
sound produced with each tap.
QUESTION 1
1. Did you hear a sound when you tapped
the table with the hammer ?
What happened to the sound when you
tapped the table with different strength.
STATION 2
Tap two medium-sized stones in a pail
filled with water. Observe what happens
when stones hit each other.
QUESTION 2
2. Where you able to hear the sound
when you strike hit two stones together
underwater?
STATION 3
3. Strike a drum with a drumstick.
Strike it with different strength. Try it
from a gentle tap to a hard tap.
QUESTION 3
3. Where you able to hear the sound
when you striked the drum?
4. In which station sound travel fastest?
When sound travel in solid, when sound
travel in water or when sound travel in
air?
You have 10 minutes to do the activity.
If you don't have any questions anymore,
you may start.
IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Write TRUE if the statement is correct and write FALSE if the statement is
wrong.
Write your answer on the space provided.
1. Sound travels the fastest in air.
2. Sound travels in a straight path.
3. Hitting an object harder or softer changes pitch.
4. The faster is the vibration of an object the louder is the sound.
5. Sound travels the slowest in solid.
